  1. Take your time! Follow Owens instructions carefully and you'll end up so proud of the result.
  2. beans wrote: Correct as there's no condenser, the car's fitted with an electronic ignition  ;) I checked the float chambers but nothing visibly wrong there. DCOE - float is shared by cylinders 3 and 4 isn't it? Wondering if the main or idle jet on #3 has worked loose or something so that JUST #3 is over-fueling? (NB: it's possible that I'm very wrong, I know pretty much nothing about DCOE carbs)
  3. Not familiar with the weber DCOE set up, but is it possible that it's flooding just no. 3?
  4. Applied for my 25% from Capita yesterday, don't find out until the Charity/Funding board meet later in the month though.
  5. Canley are more than Paddock, but cheaper than Rimmers.... If Canleys are quality I'll go for them I think. Cheers guys!
  6. Cheers Wim, did you get your spring from a UK supplier? What's the quality like?
  7. Well done guys,we saw you coming in to Lands End just as we were leaving and it really cheered us up to see you still running! And cheered us up even more when we passed 3 or 4 more cars behind you and realised you were no-where near running last! Massive respect to you!
  8. Anyone got experience of buying a replacement rear spring for a 1500? Or having one re-tempered? Cleaning, greasing and replacing the buttons hasn't sorted mine out.
  9. I'd like to echo the above - thanks to everyone! I'd also like to thank all the club members, family, friends etc. that turned out to see us at the control points and along the route!

  11. Peter, showed my wife what you write above, it's exactly what she's been saying ever since we left LA yesterday morning. She agrees entirely. (and so do I)

    Tyres

Whatever you choose make sure the rims you fit too are within the acceptable range stated by the tyre manufacturer, be aware that when you approach the "extremes" (wide tyres on "narrow" rims) some brands/types of tyre will be more forgiving w.r.t. rim size than others.

Now replaced with a new R9 petrol pipe... I opened up the old piece and the inner part was about as sturdy as a ballon. So when the pump was sucking the inside callapsed and stopped the flow.   Better to have it sorted now than fail on the run! :-)
  14. More unexpected jobs to do! Chassis rotten behind OS ARB mounting! (see blog: http://yorkshire-spitfire.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/this-was-not-plan.html) Although I did manage to check/adjust the front wheel bearings. So that's one item off the list.

  17. Changed the throttle discs for the solid type last night and now the rear carb is sticking..... :-(
  18. Thanks for the file cookie - loaded it into our old TomTom! Not that easy to choose a POI in the user interface - but we'll work it out as we go!
  19. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Long-Grease-Nipple-Size-Engineers/dp/B0051ODGYC ? :-)
  20. Hey Wim - threads are 1/4 UNF... and look like this:
  21. Radar Love? either the White Lion or the Golden Earing verisons. But in the car? No point... Spitfire is too loud to hear music.
  22. Ended up drilling the remains of the grease nipple out and running a tap down the how. Has anyone EVER managed to extract anything with stud extractors? I've never managed to get them to work? Always end up either MIGing something onto the remains or drilling out. Useless bleeding objects.
  23. Glad to hear you sussed it out Mik.
