  1. Surely something with extra wheels, just to be on the safe side?
  2. Well it's risk vs cost time! 1) Put it back together and keep fingers crossed. Might last years, might last minutes. Do ya feel luck? 😉 2) Second hand piston, but just change 1. Put it back together. 3) £££££££ full set of new pistons and rings, new bearings at the bottom end and piece of mind for the future.
  3. Maybe valve springs shattered or collets dropped out and it ended up with a valve in the cylinder - happened to us on the border raiders last year resulting in this: Previous owner probably just replaced the valve after fishing the bits out instead of a full strip down and replace the piston?
  4. Reminds me of the land rover v8 rad, but that bottom hose connection isn't right.
  5. FWIW: 1) I use this sparingly ONLY in areas likely to leak (timing cover on Spit 1500 for example), not on "run-of-the-mill" gaskets. 2) I just ensure that all the threads are clean and use a small amount of oil Depending on how the block has been cleaned make sure it REALLY is clean. (If it's been media blasted make sure there is no residue in oilways etc! Don't take a suppliers word for it) Check and if necessary replace studs/nuts/high load fasteners. (Big end bolts, head studs/nuts etc.)
  6. The clutch on the old rover 16/50 was a wet clutch (late 1920s) - and the answer to how wet...? VERY, it took ages for the clutch housing to drain back into the sump after switching the engine off.
  7. I thought the powerspark (like I have) was available for delco as well? 's why I mentioned it. http://www.simonbbc.com/electronic-ignition-kits?sort=20a&filter_id=1
  8. I'm running the powerspark points replacement and rotor arm - it's done the rbrr and 10CR and regular trips without issues.
  9. I'll be swapping my rubber fuel hoses for Gates 27313 1/4" 50 PSI Barricade - I bought a reel from the US - hope it's genuine and it lasts at that price!
  10. The Bell system on my 1500 is just too damned loud for long motorway runs.
  11. The talk of adapters is because the standard thread for the spitfire screw on filter is an "rare" size, changing the screw part (fitting an "adapter") allows a much wider choice of filters with the same size body but different fitting.
  12. SuperFlex seem very similar to SuperPro (same make different name?) Land Rover - SuperPro all the way Triumph - SuperFlex all the way. Don't be fooled by cheap ones (floflex? unbranded) in my (land rover) experience they last about 10 minutes. I found PolyBush good - but not as good as the Super's
  13. There's not really a practical way to turn a 4x4 R380 into a rwd, ratios are not terrible: 1st: 3.39:1 2nd: 2.13:1 3rd: 1.30:1 4th:  1:1 5th:0.77:1 from what I recall the input shaft on the 4x4 r380 is about 8 foot long as well!
  14. If only somebody would come up with an off-the-shelf parts conversion for the R380 4x4 to R380 rwd. Think of all those rotten discoveries waiting to have their boxes removed!
  15. I found the hardest part was extracting the stub axle from the old uprights. Take care that the bottom fixing is well seated in the wishbone before tightening. Other than that - not a bad job. I also replaced the top ball joints at the same time, saves splitting the old ones from the old upright AND mine didn't look great either.
  16. I just wondered if it not being in the list meant that it wasn't a control this time OR that Phil had already been daftheroic enough to put himself forward. 😉
  17. IIRC tyres with no aspect ratio (aka profile) were aspect ratio of 82. But I could be wrong (my memory isn't what it used to be!)
  18. Does this mean there won't be a freezing cold soaked through Phil at Carter Bar this year?

    fuel pipe

I would guess that the situation would be that rigid appropriately fixed proper spec. plastic pipe is acceptable (since I've seen it factory fitted on 1990s vehicles) BUT that a tester would have a serious fit if they saw flexible rubber fuel hose running the length of the underside of a car.

    fuel pipe

Not sure how good they are but paddocks list JPR495-1 and JPR495-2 fuel pipe kits for 25ukp+vat ? http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/parts.aspx?categoryID=9&vehicleId=2
  21. The engine I have in mind is a Beemer, so I was wondering if it should be engine+gearbox conversion OR engine+gearbox+diff. Sounds like all 3 might be the "best" option.
