  1. Nope, everything cleared nicely. I had trouble with the rods interfering with the oil pump though, had to take the die grinder to the pump casing to get clearance.

  4. Thanks Ben, I only get "Share" as an option on the 3 dots on my posts, no edit. On posting I only see "Insert Image from Url" no upload option? Is my functionality restricted because I'm not a member or something?
  5. The images seem to show if I'm signed in to google, but otherwise not. I hadn't intended to link to the google images but to actually paste the images into this forum, clearly I did something wrong. BUT I can't edit my post (or at least I can't find a way to edit it) to correct the images. Can anyone help? Cheers, Sam

  7. So, back in 2015 the engine in the Spitfire was a bit "tired" so I decided to swap the spare in for the Boarder Raiders run as a test to see if it was up to the 10CR that year. It failed, valve springs shattered on day 2, dropping the valve into the top of the piston, which then drove the valve guide out of the head smashing the rocker arm on it's way out. 😞 A swift engine change, with assistance from Mik Davies saw us back on the road in time for the 10CR and the spare engine sat on the engine stand in the garage until October 2019 waiting for attention. I stripped the engine and the "dings" in the bore made me think that it was perhaps beyond saving, but after taking the block to my local trusted engineering company (William Browns of Halifax) we concluded that a +060 over-bore would save it.... Because I'd been paid my bonus at work in 2019 I had a bit of budget to spare, so I decided I'd rebuild to "vanity spec" not just a plain old rebuild. New rods, pistons and a fast-road cam from newmans (with new high spec followers as well) I matched the piston+rod+pin weights to within about 2 grams and had the head "sorted" by Peter Burgess to his "fast road" spec. I measured the combustion volume and had the head skimmed to bring the CR up to 10.2:1 Duplex vernier timing gear added, a rebuilt dizzy from H&H.... I got the engine in and running in April 2020 Since then I've added a 4:2:1 exhaust manifold and had the twin SU carb bodies rebushed and I've rebuilt the carbs and fitted them. Sadly due to "the situation" it's not done enough miles since then to even be considered run in. Hopefully back on the road in the next few weeks.
  8. Just over 12 months ago I had my spare rebuilt by H&H, although it hasn't had much running since I fitted it last March H&H said it's been rebuilt with advance etc. to suit my engine spec. Maybe worth a chat with them?
  9. Sadly no Triumph related activity in nearly 12 months! I plan on dragging them both out of the garage sometime soon, getting them MOT'd and then getting enough miles on the new Spitfire engine to run it in and change it onto regular oil.
  10. Brilliant! It's steps like these that will take our hobby/pastime forward and make it far more acceptable and accessible to the next generation (which might be the last who have the chance to enjoy it)    
  11. I wouldn't advocate vehicle tracking as a replacement for the checkpoints or anything like that. I was thinking more along the lines of some video live-streams of the "critical" controls, start, JoG and LE. Allowing those teams who opt in to participating to have their check-in at each control automatically appear on a "event/team" status on the website. Allow participants to "update status" using a couple of drop-down options on a simple web-app eg. "still running @ GPS coordinates" , "taking a break @ GPS Coordinates" and if they opt in have these updates appear as pins on an interactive map alongside their appearance at the controls. Of course you'd have to set it up so that nobody checked in at a control prior to it opening and things like that. We don't want any potential bad behaviour of participants to reflect badly on the club when it's out of the organiser's control. But with a bit of thought I think it would be a great way for a much wider selection of the club to participate in the event in some form or other. Even just a live list of the withdrawals and runners would be really cool (IMHO)
  12. I've thought for quite a few years that there was a missed opportunity to involve the wider club in the event through online channels. Entrants could opt in/out/ish into their progress being shared to a private members only channel. I think it would be really cool to visibly log the progress of the event and teams (who consent to be included) with interactive maps and such based on check-ins at the stops and sighting from members spectating on the route.  Teams could use a web-app to flag if they are still running/late/taking a rest stop/need help which would be visible to other members following the event and I'm sure would be helpful to the organisers.  With a bit of care technology that snoops on the users could probably be used (such as using OSM rather than Google for mapping)  Same platform once established could be used in a sightly different form for the 10CR.  I think a lot of members would love to follow the whole event if they weren't able to participate. Something of a moot point anyway, sorry I'll stop rambling.
  13. I'm not a club member at the moment. I was considering re-joining and putting an entry in for the 2021 10CR, but I'm not on the Club Facebook groups... so I'm intrigued.... but in the dark.
  14. Yeah, I think the first set I got you were RHP from Huddersfield. The last of their stock!  
  15. I got rid of the nos stocks on these at Spen bearings, Huddersfield bearings and George Lodge. Spen can still supply KSM (Japan) as their best option. Nobody I contacted doing mail order or based in the North had branded ones. 
  16. Corresponding bearings without the snap ring are RMS8 and MJ1 No-name rubbish start at about 7 quid for those, but branded ones are still expensive. (25 quid for R&M) I'd wondered in the past on one forum or another if the snap-ring was required. Came to the conclusion that it was and that having the groove machined on would end up costing as much as buying the bearings with the ring/groove.
  17. Bearing - 104433? I believe is equiv. to : MJ1NR, rms8nr,  MS10K My bearing stockist can't get branded ones anymore from what I think of as "major brands", when I bought them for people over the last few years they've been new old stock "when they are gone they are gone" Best I can manage from my contacts these days are "KSM Japan" at about 35 to 40 quid per bearing!
  18. Although we only made it to Skiach this time... the event isn't broken, don't make any fundamental changes. Yes, maybe extra marshalls at the first stop(s) could have people processed quicker. Maybe the route needs a tweak here and there on the Sunday, maybe not. I think Knebworth is a great place to host the start/finish. A big improvement on the Plough (although a shame to lose that historic connection) Lands End is what it is, they know they effectively have a captive market and so have a take it or leave it attitude in terms of service.  Sounds like breakfast service at JoG was epic as ever (was certainly our experience in 2014) I think my only real concern about the event is that posts on social media discussing speeding and images showing road books signed before the stipulated time put the event at risk and potentially leave the club open to criticism.   
  19. IMHO a crew of 2 in a soft-top is as hardcore as it gets on the RBRR! My great admiration and congrats on your achievement!    
  20. I have a Spitfire 1500 HG for a recessed block, unfortunately I'm over 4 hours from you! Might be worth trying on here http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/index.php to find somebody local? I posted a link to this on the RBRR facebook group in the hope that somebody closer can help.  
  21. Just to throw my 2p worth in... my suppliers can't get what I'd call branded ones anymore. I can get KSM Japan bearings, but no skf, fag, rhp etc.  And the KSM bearings are about 35-40 quid EACH.
