  1. Last time I priced up Timken bearings alone (no pin, grease or felt seal) it came out at about £77.50 inc VAT but + delivery from https://www.bearings-online.co.uk/ for all 4 Will be interested to see how the ones you have last/perform over time.
  2. A bit of a set-back on the Dolomite over the last few days.... I decided to coat the lower front valance with stone ship after I'd repaired/welded/fillered all the holes. I didn't strip the whole thing back to bare metal, just the bits I repaired and then primer and rust-proofed those bits. When I coated the whole panel in stone-chip the parts with top-coat exposed reacted badly and I ended up with a flakey, crazy paved nightmare of top-coat and stone chip. So last night I stripped the whole lot back and started again. 😞 In slightly more successful news, I removed the right-hand wiper spindle which had some play in it (which I think is the source of the vibration noise behind the dash at tick-over) and replaced it with a NOS item from Mick Dolphin. I had to split the large chromed nut to get the old one out, so re-fit can't be completed until the replacement arrives.
  3. Hi Craig, I have 2... one pretty much identical to the one you posted a link to and it's GREAT. BUT I keep it in the "measuring tools" drawer of my tool chest and use it only for true precision measurements. The second one I got was a Chinese ebay special, less accurate but only about 6 quid, that one is on the work bench and used for more day-to-day stuff like measuring thread sizes/drill bits etc. That way I'm not worried about dropping/damaging the decent one but I always have one to hand for more everyday use. (I've checked the measurements 1 against the other and they tally up nicely)
  4. Good luck finding a suitable car Howard! I hope you can still take part.
  5. Just replaced mine with this a couple of months ago : https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/bosch/s3004/
  6. I ran the Spitfire for about 20K miles on just super unleaded (RBRR and 2x10CR included) without any signs of valve seat recession - from the paperwork I got with the car (pretty extensive) it doesn't see to have ever had an unleaded head fitted. YMMV
  7. If it really is just rings and there's no ovality, serious wear or damage to the cylinder bores a hone and new rings should sort it.
  8. Our only successful complete run was 2014 in the Spitfire (soft top) , tried again in the Dolomite (2018) but withdrew due to one of the crew being seriously ill. Just make sure the seat foams are in good condition! 🙂
  9. Looks a bit "breathey"... maybe test the compression? Maybe 1 or more pistons needing rings?
  10. You might miss the OD on the run north on the first night before branching off the a1m and the run back down on the second day south of Sterling... but most of the rest of the run isn't at speeds where you'd miss it. RBRR in a Spitfire is hardcore! First time RBRR in the Spitfire?
  11. Sorry Tim, I don't know. I suppose it MIGHT be theoretically possible to tell if there's a difference in the serial numbers from one vehicle to the other? (Like you can with the various versions of the BW65 autobox?) Maybe worth a call to http://www.odspares.com/ ?
  12. There's a few sellers listing 25 foot "rolls" on places like eBay anything from 15 to 30 quid. Are you looking for more than that? Edit: See also wrightsautosupplies
  13. In the past if I can't get the nyloc to tighten I've just stuck a jack under it (lower wishbone/upright) and loaded the suspension up.
  14. Owen is a gentleman and produces great product. I have his foams in my seats, but wish I could have bought the covers at the same time. (Couldn't afford it)
  15. Sorry I don't have the Timken P/N in my notes but here's what I have: Outer GHB117: RHP LJ1 SKF RLS8 1 x 2.1/4 x 5/8" Inner 117853: Koyo B-168 That might give you a start to help find the Timken nos? (Please double check that I haven't made a mistake though!)
  16. Result! Get out on the road and enjoy!
