I seem to remember something about Dolomite being fine, but Spitfire needs sump swap (and maybe flywheel?) But somebody with something more definitive than my vague memories will probably confirm the details?!
Going to (all being well) pick up another rescue dog today!
With a name like that it must be fate! Dolly
We might even make the trip over in Binny the Dolomite 🙂
I'm missing your point, sorry. The screen shot you posted only shows FZX carbs on what it lists as "Mk V" 1493cc. Not Mk IV.
Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying the carbs are unsuitable for harveyzone's 1500, I'm saying they didn't come from a MK IV. (Or if they did... they aren't standard fit)
Sorry @Dannyb, just realised how dumb my comment was - you clearly had a fuel pump related issue - not carbs! Really need to switch my brain on sometimes.
Do you have the standard SU carbs? Is there a heatshield fitted - before I fitted a nice shiny heatshield I used to get issues when it was hot.
Old Blog Post
Apart from the first few weeks of classic ownership (transferred a "modern" insurance policy onto the Spitfire before cancelling and shifting to a classic policy) I've always just gone with the breakdown cover included in the policy. On the 2 occasions I've needed it in the last 9 years they've been fine.
I'm after some new brake shoes for the Dolomite (1850 - p/n GBS746)
BUT Ferodo and Mintex don't do (as far as I can find) any compatible shoes.
So far I've found:
LPR
TRW
Metelli
QH
Valeo
Any opinions on what brand I should opt for? I know it's "only" the rears, but I'm a bit obsessive about parts quality for anything brakes related.
Cheers, Sam
I'm afraid the signs don't look good... no recent MOT/Tax (tax expired 1 May 1986) info on the DVLA website and the last time a logbook was issued was November 1985... there's a small chance somebody has it squirrelled away somewhere... but it's slim.
Sorry. Sam
If it was me I'd spend Monday ringing round alternatives, and if successful call them up and tell them to cancel the policy due to the issues. Unless you are driving it I can't see a couple of days out of tax/sorn being a big deal. But now I've said that you'll probably get fined and I'll feel guilty for saying it!
I don't believe the route is published yet, but the fine Mr @Ellis sent out an update email to main entrants on Mon, 28 Feb, 23:02 with the locations of start/finish and overnight halts. If you didn't get that I suggest pestering him for it! 😉
The motto I'd apply to the job, whichever way you tackle it is "Perfection is the enemy of progress". I've seen too many full restorations that are launched into with great enthusiasm but then falter when something doesn't quite go to plan (the chassis paint isn't great, the wing panel isn't perfect... whatever)
Do a decent job, get it on the road and them improve it 😉
I have no direct experience... but based on the wiring diagram:
Looks like a connector on the loom (purple wire in and out) then the bulb, then a purple+white wire then the switch (which grounds)
Can't comment on where the switch should be though.
I wondered about a similar idea, but got caught it the "will it prevent rot, or just move the point at which damp/muck gathers" debate and never moved on. Interested to see what happens.
Those Dolomite front ends really suffer, since I sorted mine last summer I'm blasting the arches with underseal and the box sections with waxoyl in the hope of fending off the rust for a while.
At that age it could be a FWD or a more Dolomitey RWD. The FWD is a desirable car from a rarity perspective but comes with it's own special mechanical complications - worth knowing what you might be getting into.
