  1. Hmm, probably aught to book that too. Managed to hoof it back to Coventry after the 2012 RBRR, but it maybe wasn't the smartest move ever.
  2. Whilst that may be true, you could get it re-hardened.
  3. To be truely effective all fans really need a close fitting shroud - I know that the standard ones don't have them, but it does help a huge amount, and putting one on front is a big bonus too - however, I am well aware there is no room on a Vitesse for that.
  4. Okay, just thinking that if my Vitesse isn't up to it I might take my BMW, which is a classic in insurance terms being 21 years old...
  5. It's well worth fusing whatever you can - when I first had my 2000, I found I was losing overdrive and a few other things. At first I thought a fuse went because it was an exceptionally wet day so water could have got up to the gearbox switches. But it then happened three times in a row on a dry day. I then found out that the overdrive wiring was going round the edge of the gearstick surround, not through it, Repaired the wire, drilled a hole and put a grommet in for the overdrive stick wiring. 5 years later, not had an issue with it. Better safe than sorry!
  6. There were faster cars than 948 Heralds on the first run... if I have to, can I at least have a twin carb 948??
  7. I've just thought, if we're using the 1966 route, can we also do it without speed cameras and virtually empty roads like it was back in the day???
  8. Good to know Richard - it'll get some exercise in February all being well around Warwickshire
  9. Target - Get my Vitesse going for the Donington event! What is the limitation on cars for these track days?
  10. "He still felt perfectly fresh and the elation and clarity of mind produced by the Benzedrine were still with him" - sounds ideal for RBRR!
  11. All cars end up with a little filler, unless they're bare metalled of course. It's very hard to get round that really, and a light skim to take out the imperfections is no bad thing.
  12. The joys of living in a country where it doesn't rain all the time and they don't cover the roads in salt all the time. Mind you, they don't in the UK so much, but that's mainly a budget thing. Looks good work on that rear panel. Nice that you did metal work on it, most people would have just dumped a tub of Bondo in there.
  13. Agreed - I liked the 2012 t-shirt (the only one I have actually) and really liked it.
  14. Will entrants get first dibs on this stuff? Same with the RBRR book too - I'd love to have one to add to my collection when they're published and would hate to miss out. Maybe include a list of teams from the first RBRR and the 50th anniversary of it too, even if it's just a list of names, the car they use and their location? That way the book will be personal to all the people that take part.
  15. What hole puncher have you got, sounds like it could be very useful?
  16. RBRR Beer? 'Petrol, mineral and tears' or something. I'm sure a catchy name could be thought of. I'd suggest maybe some of the Coventry breweries should get a go at it being as the cars are from Coventry originally... https://www.byattsbrewery.co.uk/
  17. A full pint would be good. I'd consider a flat cap as long as it was obviously a RBRR item. Maybe 'Round Britain Reliability Run 1966 - 2016' sun strips for the cars? Maybe little plaques for the cars too etc?
  18. Cheers Colin, When I was at Ginetta I did re-purpose some Disco 1 inner wing to be steering rack mounts on a Custom we were building. The shapes were exactly when I needed. In the end I have bought a 2x1m sheet of 0.9mm steel which was fairly cheap and will be posted directly to my workshop, so ready for me to chop up soon! I'm not too keen on re-purposing old panels when it's going to be on show as you have to do so much cleaning up work it's not worth it. On the steering mount, it was hidden behind the dash so could just leave it in Disco white from where it was cut from the donor. I enjoy fabrication work, so if I need to hole-saw stuff to make it suit my purposes I enjoy that. I also have a sheet metal guillotine now so can just chop away to my hearts content!
  19. Cheers, thanks for that. Not structural welding, so 20 gauge it is I guess.
  20. Or those that are 'under the thumb' will be made to choose between which weekend they get to participate in. On the other hand, I'm still undecided about the Stoneleigh weekend, and won't be dragging AJ round with me - she's not into Autojumbles. Still, finalising details at the moment for the rally and all seems good so far, found some great roads, and unlike a treasure hunt you can enjoy the drive and not be stopping every few miles! If the roads were fun in a Diseasel Volvo S60 Auto then they gotta be fun in a Triumph.
  21. Hi all, Now that Mike has announced it on his post, I can confirm that the team that brought you past greats such as the 'Kings and Queens' and 'The Red Herring Rally' (The clue was in the title), we present our latest adventure - The Warwickshire Winter 12 Car, 'A Tale of Two Windmills'. Full details will be announced soon, but it will start in a similar area of Warwickshire to the previous events, and will finish at a very nice local pub where the teams can relax and have dinner etc. The food is good quality and inexpensive. The pub has a great atmosphere, lots of good beers, friendly staff etc too. And possibly of use, to those with cars of a soft-top nature, roaring open fires in the bar! As we recognise there is an early start to the event, once again we will be offering refreshments and a light breakfast to teams. Of course, with it being winter, we will be happy to fill Thermos flasks for you (other brands are available - although not Russell Brand, you can keep him). The route will be split into 4 sections, and will be available for Beginner, Novice and Expert. Mileage for the route will not exceed 80 miles, and will be navigated by a series of different clues. There may well be a photographer on route and at the start/finish venue so we will hopefully get some good photos. As the event is a half day, rather than a full day, the cost is less than the summer event, exact details to be finalised soon. So, SAVE THE DATE, 28TH FEBRUARY 2016!
  22. Good morning all, I have some rust repairs I need to do to a bonnet and body tub I have - of course it's mainly the arches that need work, and a small patch on one floor. Can anyone tell me what gauge of steel the Triumph bodies were made from? I want to try to make the repairs as invisible as possible by flush welding them in rather than overlapping. Anyone know? I have been told 20 gauge, but I want to get a few more opinions before buying any steel. Thanks.
  23. On my 13/60, in winter, it took ages to heat up, and the temperature gauge was always no higher than 1/3rd scale, in summer it usually was around the half-way point, apart from once when it went way up, but that's a whole other story (sat in traffic for about 2 hours with a less than perfect battery so couldn't risk turning engine off) So, having a wider radiator would have done my car no favours, and I did drive her pretty hard.
