  1. Another entry in - 10 entries now, so only two more spaces! It'd be great to get a full entry of twelve cars! 2. Often a problem with the pressed steel covers is they leak from years and years of owners hanging off spanners when doing them up, distorting the shape. I admit that they're not always perfect, but some judicial tightening on the nuts will see them right. You could always drop some tubes over the mounting studs to give a face for the nut to tighten onto without compressing the steel cover too much out of shape?
  3. Haha, don't worry about it Richard, I would rather people came if their cars are playing up than to just drop out.
  4. Exciting times as we get another entry today, the former winner of 'car of the event' from the Treasure Hunt - 'Zombie' joins us! It also looks like Rob and Iris are going to be unopposed again! Beginner Rob Pearce / Iris Chiu - Cambridgeshire - GT6 Probably Novice Richard Warr / Lynn O'Halloran - Worcs - 2000 Mk1 Dave Maton / Steve Raddley - Herts/Essex - 2000 (2.5) Mk1 Matt Roughton / Matt Sutton - Warks / Somerset - Spitfire Expert Barry Marsh / Paul Marsh - Bucks/London - Vitesse 2L Mike Helm / Colin Wake - Essex - Dolomite Dale Barker / Nigel Abdullah - Herts - 2000 Mk1 Mike Bishop / Darren Armitage - Essex / Lancashire - Stag Charlie Deards / Ellis Stokes - Herts - 2500S Estate As we're now up to 9 entries, and still expecting a few more we may get a full contingent! If I still have a space or two, I may see if other people want to fill the space, if the cars are in keeping with the event - ie, no Honda Civics... or Toyota Lucidas!!! I'm looking at you Mr Warr!!
  5. Considering how many cars and owners there are around here I'm somewhat surprised that we don't get more local entries... I can understand people not wanting to us their near show car type Triumphs, but there are lots of 'daily' types...
  6. Cheers Bruce - sorry about not being able to get your son involved, but as I said in the PM, he'll be welcome at the treasure hunt I run in the summer as that's run to a different set of MSA rules.
  7. Another one on the door mat last night, hoping to get a few more in to get a full contingent! Beginner Rob Pearce / Iris Chiu - Cambridgeshire - GT6 Probably Novice Richard Warr / Lynn O'Halloran - Worcs - 2000 Mk1 Dave Maton / Steve Raddley - Herts/Essex - 2000 (2.5) Mk1 Expert Barry Marsh / Paul Marsh - Bucks/London - Vitesse 2L Mike Helm / Colin Wake - Essex - Dolomite Dale Barker / Nigel Abdullah - Herts - 2000 Mk1 Mike Bishop / Darren Armitage - Essex / Lancashire - Stag Charlie Deards / Ellis Stokes - Herts - 2500S Estate
  8. Good job we're finishing at a pub! Not much in the way of southern fairy drinks though, just good honest ale for the most part 😉
  9. Don't worry Dave, I think between you and Radders you can work it out okay. Maybe 😉 I've had the clues checked and they're at a suitable level, and importantly, they all make sense too! Also, if I get a moment, I'd like to have a feel of the clutch pedal in 'Nigel', see how it compares to mine, if that's okay? I'll try and get mine down too, but the clutch is very heavy and like a switch!
  10. 'Stop in X services (Oswestry?) where kindly souls hand out bags of biscuits - pause the game to make a cup of tea.'
  11. Hi Bruce, I'll be honest I don't think a 10 year old would understand the clues well, I did a lot of navigation at that age in scouts etc, and I don't think that many children would get them. A lot of the navigation is done in pictoral form, or codes etc (without giving too much away). Unfortunately though, either way your son can't take part, due to the following MSA (Motor Sport Association) rules; Minimum Ages 5.3.1. Navigators (non-Drivers) on Rallies without Special Stages must be at least 12 years old, and 16 years old on rallies with Special Stages. My event doesn't have any special stages, but the rules do state that navigators must be at least 12 years old. They are very strict on this, so we can't get round it. I'll send you a PM too.
  12. Hi Bruce, Yes, as it currently stands I have space on the event, with 5 more spaces. You would be very welcome to join us!
  13. Okay, I'll swing by the place I saw the one for sale in Coventry. If it's still there I'll knock the door and ask if the car / boot floor is still available. I know that the car had great sentimental value to them as it was their Dad's from new and his last car too. It must have sat for 30+ years, BUT the panels were kept in the loft in the house...
  14. Nope, feels fine to drive, just looks very odd. When I stripped it down I didn't take the knuckles off the arms and just unbolted the dampers to change the units over.
  15. Yes, it has a bit, but I think that is also down to the fact the old top mounts had collapsed too - this was what lead me to stripping the car in the first place actually. But they were replaced with good second hand ones, and the new dampers installed. Yeah, I have driven the car, probably about 1500 - 2000 miles, and although it has settled a bit, it's not as much as I thought it would have been.
  16. Well, I'll have to look into it and see what is what, I may have got it right or wrong, I'm not sure now. Either way, after changing the dampers and top mounts, I went from a bit of negative camber to a fair bit of positive...
  17. Well, entry closes before the event so I can finalise numbers, sort catering, book tables in the pub etc, so a late entry may be possible, but I wouldn't want to promise anything, plus you'll need time in advance to buy the correct map etc. However, you would still be very welcome to join us.
  18. Oh no, I found the shims, I have a copy of the blue 2000 workshop manual so I saw they were in there... What I didn't realise is that the position of them is important in terms of going on the fore or aft bolt. So I think during all this and doing the brakes etc I may strip it all apart and try to reset it.
  19. My car is a Mk1, so I will need to change the hubs then. Another reason for doing this is that after I changed the dampers I had a lot of positive camber on the front wheels. I need to get my camber gauge on it, but it looks to be about  5 degrees pos. So that needs changing too...
  20. Nick, is that in relation to the Mk1 or the Mk2 with Stag discs? I thought the hubs were different too?
  21. Hi all, Following on from fitting the new exhaust manifold to my Mk1, I'm also thinking of upgrading the suspension and brakes on the car too. Again, are there any pitfalls of the following; About a year ago I replaced all the dampers with new KYB units from CW. But the springs looked okay. However, I'm thinking of fitting the progressive wound springs on the front, and something of similar ilk on the rear. Most of the car is poly-bushed too. I presume that these are a good enough fit that they can be fitted 'as per book', and don't need any fettling? The other upgrade is changing to Mk2 front brakes, as the Mk1 ones currently on the car are shagged - not much meat on the pad and the discs are on the way out too. So, to upgrade to Mk2 brakes, I'll need the mk2 hub, discs (obviously), and pads. Will I also need to change the brake pipes, or are the threads the same on the Mk2 calipers? Finally, over the top of all this, will the TR6 steels sit over the top of them without an issue?
