  1. Any photos of the event? This year has not been kind for me doing rallies as the other half (my navigator) used 3.5 weeks of holiday right at the start of the year (India and Australia though... she used them well!), but hopefully next year we'll be onto the events more.
  2. Going back to the original point, I have now bought a switch off the old ebay, £8 including the harness connector and wiring and postage. Not too bad... as long as it works!!
  3. Which, if your grooves are equal, will mean your discs should be changed...
  4. No, I think he means the groove worn into the disc by the pad is 0.75mm thick, or if you prefer, the 'lip' at the edge of the disc where the pad doesn't run, and so the disc isn't worn down.
  5. Not sure Dave. Chris Witor's site only shows one size, and so does Canley's (as far as I can see) for the straight 6 engine.
  6. Hmm, that could explain why my 2000 is running on, even with the electric fan keeping the radiator cool. Also, something worth looking into is Tetraboost. It's nasty, nasty stuff, contains lead. BUT it's the only way to make your fuel genuinely leaded again, can be used as an octane booster too AND protects against the effects of ethanol and the water build up that occurs. Never open a bottle indoors - even in a garage with the door open. It's bad stuff for you BUT great for your car! http://tetraboost.com/
  7. Martin, that's when the aluminium gets too hot and from memory melts in localised places then cools, and gives a rough appearance where the metal as 'picked up' hence the name. Here's an example of an aluminium con-rod from a compressor I rebuilt after it seized solid.
  8. Where is the engine earth cable on a Vitesse? Is it sump to chassis or round the engine mount?
  9. That was the thinking when I kicked off the Warwickshire rallies too. To an extent, it worked. Still a large number of London / Essex teams though (somewhat inevitable I think)
  10. Actually, I know they are as when I was having running issues on my 2.5 I pulled the 25D dizzy from my Vitesse and it fitted directly in place of my 45D.
  11. Clive, I'm afraid Bicester is just outside my patch, however, I have some friends down that way and they have suggested this place; http://www.denisrestaurant.co.uk/index.html#_=_. Not sure if the food is your sort of thing, but my friends have said it's very nice.
  12. Pheasants are the same - might be scrawny neck b*st*rds but they'll still rip a carbon fibre front splitter off. Thankfully, never hit anything like a boar or pig, which I am mighty thankful for. I guess at least now you can make the decision of cut losses or build a new engine for it / rebuild the current one.
  13. I'm not 100% but I think the dizzys are interchangeable Dave.
  14. As it's my local patch I can recommend places around the area. Excellent pub just down the road called The Antelope. The Texas Beef Chilli (may not be on the menu any more, but was a while ago) was fantastic. Small pub, but decent enough range of beers etc. Could be a good watering hole for after the event??
  15. Same Russell... I have filled in an entry form for the Vitesse... out of MOT since this time in 2014... Not much to do directly after HCR. If the Vitesse isn't done, I'll enter the 2000. If that isn't well after HCr (should be, but just in case) I'll come in the 540i. A few friends are interested, so might be a few Escorts etc. (The cars, not women).
  16. Maybe in your part of the world. Datsun's aren't that common in these parts!! My ex's Dad had a white 180B SSS mk1 in the 70s. Sadly he sent it to the crusher when it went rotten and before old Jap cars were cool.
  17. Agree with Rob - I'm not sure what the correct gap is supposed to be, but they shouldn't quite touch for the reasons Rob gives.
  18. Ah okay, I was wondering how the two halfs mated up, it had to be either at the UJ or the spline.
  19. Ah, so you already had Datsun drive shaft ends on Triumph inners??
  20. Currently on Yokohama A539s, and have done sterling service for a fair while including RBRR and a few track days. Hoping to get the last of them at the AutoSOLO, then put a fresh set on.
  21. The handbrake lever on the drivers side was jammed solid too. Could explain the 'only-occasionally-operable' handbrake too! I need a new rubber gaiter for the underside of the handbrake lever / cable, but I'll get one on order today. Greeks - mine is a 67, and I've heard of adding those lugs. Chris Witor sells assemblies already done. I might get one from him after HCR but before RBRR so I know I have a good assembly in there.
  22. Is the last pic the Datsun shaft?? I was under the back end of my Mk1 this weekend and my shafts look nothing like that in terms of the fat end at the diff flange end?
  23. Same day as VSCC at Mallory Park . I have not missed a VSCC meet there for 13 years, apart from when the track was shut for a season. Drivers briefing more important in the long run though.
  24. I think it's okay, but I will monitor it carefully. There is a slight knock under the car, but after careful examination I can see that the play is in the sliding spline on the propshaft... which is annoying as it was a new one before the 2012 RBRR and the car has only done a few thousand miles since then. I have been rebuilding the handbrake too - the springs and shoes on the drivers side drum were assembled incorrectly... Now corrected with new springs and shoes.
  25. Well, the diff is out now as is the seal. Took a fair while to get the diff out (tried to be clever and leave the exhaust on.... should have just taken it off)... Anyway, a huge flood of oil ensued after undoing the four bolts where the diff goes into the nose piece. After dropping the diff I found that there was a lot of play in the quill shaft... I think. I've uploaded a video to facebook of play in the quill shaft. The consensus there is that the amount of play I have is acceptable, those of you who can see if, can you say what your opinion is too please? https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.fallowell/videos/10154078788680802/
