  1. It's certainly a fairly meaningless term. As it happens, I'm working on the engine control for a couple of "mild hybrid" applications. They're a bit more than a mobility scooter motor, though. Of course, the ICE in question also puts out rather more power than a Triumph...
  2. Our usual monthly gathering on the first Monday of the month falls on the 1st. My counterpart at the TSSC has moved us back to the Plough for this one: The Plough, Green End Lane, Fen Ditton Apparently this was "requested" - I don't know who by or why, or even whether it's likely to be a permanent return to our pre-pandemic venue. We like to keep you on your toes 😝
  3. Oh, and the pedal boxes are spaced differently between Herald/Vitesse and Spitfire/GT6 - the latter being closer together, IIRC.
  4. The pedals are all to the right of the steering column on the small chassis cars, so there's a clutch pedal between the column and the brake stuff. The brake light switch is on a bracket on the pedal hinge box. I don't think I've got a photo handy, unfortunately.
  5. On that, it's worth noting that the parts catalogue marks that "LHS", meaning that it's for "Left Hand Steering" only, so not UK
  6. As you can see, it's bolted to the left side of the steering column support (dash is at the top of the photo, ignition key at the bottom). The bracket is home-made in this picture but its location is, I believe, correct.
  7. The light on mine is on the driver's side, positioned to give some light to the footwell where the ignition switch is. I'll see if I can get a photo of it. I'm only guessing on 160021 but the slots was my thought. That said, there are several bits on the parts diagram that look like they connect to it and are marked "USA only".
  8. Hi Eldwick I was going to reply to your PM to say it's better to ask technical questions on the forum, then I saw you had 😁 As Clive said, the interior lights are below the dash. Early Spitfires (up to Mk3) don't have them. My Mk3 GT6 has only one - the "ignition key light" - on a small bracket behind the cross-bar for the parcel shelf, to the left of the steering column. Like yours, this was missing with the bulb holder hanging loose when I bought the car. The 160021 "lamp holder" looks to be the backlight for the heater controls, possibly.
  9. Welcome to the forum, Dave. That looks a very tidy example. I look forward to reading of your travels and adventures with it.
  10. Go for it! You can't be much worse than me and I'm still in post after twenty years 😄 Rob (Cambridge group)
  11. Not really. As someone who's done 5 RBRRs in a Mk3 GT6 with standard seats (pre-headrest version) and the last one in a Spitfire with the GT6's passenger seat to provide reclining for the co-driver to sleep, and not found any problem doing so, it's hard for me to judge. True, I'm a shorty, which makes it easier, but my experience of a TR7 on RBRR suggests that making the seats taller will be a hindrance. For best sleep you need to be able to fully recline, and the GT6 doesn't have that much space to recline a taller seat into.
  12. Since there were only about 20 genuine RHD TR8s made, it's very unlikely to be one of them. I don't think they'd have the rather later "Rover" badge on the rocker cover, either. The usual real give-away, though you can't tell from that listing, is power steering. All genuine TR8s have it, very few conversions do.
  13. It does sound like there's some resistance somewhere. The problem is that, if you're on the original loom, it's likely to be a systemic "every connector is a little bit resistive" problem, more than a single point issue. It's also not impossible that the washer pump is a contributing factor; if it's a bit stiff and weak then a fresh direct connection will work but the slightly-past-its-best loom produces enough of a voltage drop that it doesn't defeat the initial stiction. It's probably also worth looking at the fuses. It's not at all uncommon to have poor connections there.
  14. Mk2 Vitesse (and later GT6 and Spitfire) used 5/16" pipe (about 8mm) from the tank to the pump, with a small exception for the actual tank outlet, which was still 1/4". The pipe from the pump to the carbs always stayed 1/4" as there's more pressure available to push the fuel through.
  15. That "Spitfire 1500" badge was fitted to US Spitfires when they got the 1500 engine a year ahead of the rest of the world. A friend of mine put one on his MkIV with a 1500 engine (and, IIRC, a US bonnet). I don't know whether it persisted for US market or whether they got the stickers along with the rest of us.
  16. How strange. I don't think there's a time window as I still get the "edit" option on posts I made months ago, nor is it an "until you've posted again" thing. Most odd.
  17. I thought it was an odd spelling of "daily" You can edit your posts by clicking on the "..." in the top right corner of the post. You get a menu that includes "Edit" if you're the author of the post.
  18. Definitely, although normally the other way. The problem is that the plugs very readily get coated with the last few moments of running, so if you've pulled up and let it idle for half a minute while you open the garage, you can get sooty plugs from idle even when the running tune is spot on. It's possible, though, that E10 burns the soot off more, so they may come out paler for the same state of tune.
  19. £211 for me, including brimming it before the start and again after the end. I don't know how much my brother added to that but probably similar.
  20. I wasn't conscious of easing off. Indeed there were stretches where I (or my brother) drove quite enthusiastically. There was, however, somewhat less traffic than in some recent years, and I wonder whether the consequent lack of stop-start, slow moving, or need for aggressive overtaking may have contributed to some of the very good figures we've seen reported.
  21. Of course it was - didn't you employ your crystal ball in preparation? 😝 😁
  22. Yep, BTDT, even in a mud patch by the side of the road in rain. Also - even if you don't have a spare you've got ways to ask other entrants, one of whom probably does.
  23. My Vitesse got a temporary fix (to a wiper arm) on the 2006 RBRR. It's still got it.
  24. I can't rule it out but, despite it being the go-to scapegoat for all problems these days, I've run with both and I can't tell any difference in how the car behaves. I certainly don't get the big drop in economy that you have and, to be honest, the science doesn't add up for your results. E10 should be no more than a couple of percent worse for economy.
