oil_on_the_carpet
You should be still able to get them newhttp://www.pag-automotive.com/index.php/radiator-engine-cooling-triumph-acclaim-c-17634_165934_165935_165936Another place to look is South Africa, the Honda Ballade, same thing, was in production for many years down there. At the end of the day, its just a Honda Civic with a boot, and Honda were masters of parts bin engineering across their range. How hot do the non full auto Honda gearboxes run? Not terribly hot. Think Automotive do proper TX coolershttp://www.thinkauto.com/acatalog/PWR_19mm_plate___fin_Transmission_Coolers.html
uksnatcher
Whats the size's mate, heres one that may do but not sure... :-/http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIA-CLARUS-1-8-2-0-16V-96-01-MANUAL-AUTO-RADIATOR-NEW-/320704859711?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aab7fce3fEDIT.....Forget that one too big... here is the sizes of the Acclaim off the links above:Thickness [mm]: 33 Width [mm]: 310 Height [mm]: 325Ebay Ballade rad:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-Ballade-Radiator-504320-1-3-ltr-10-1979-9-1982-/390506316517?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AHonda&hash=item5aebfd82e5
ferny
So I've done some research. None of the official Acclaim manuals make mention of the working specs relating to the radiator and gearbox. The radiator roughly measures 19" (760mm) wide x 12.5" (500mm) high. The inlet is spaced 18.5" (740mm) from the right side of the radiator. The outlet is spaced 11" (440mm) from the top.It fits in a gap 13" (520mm) high. Width isn't an issue.I've looked at the following as they all have oil inputs;Isuzu Trooper / Vauxhall Monterrey automatic - Approximate core size - 500mm x 620mmLexus IS200 automatic 2.0 1999 to 2005 - Approximate core size - 718mm x 375mmHonda CRV / CR-V 2.0 2002-2006 - Approximate core size - 405mm w x 736mm Mazda MX-5 mk1 Eunos automatic - I will measure mineMitsubishi L200 1996-2005 - Approximate core size - 603mm x 375mmSo in theory the Lexus and Mitsubishi ones would work. Has anyone got a link to a site listing the other important dimensions such as hoses?edit - Cock. I've just realised that none of those would work as the filler neck is in the way, it needs to come out past the panel it sits under. ferny
Just saw your edit.uksnatcher wrote:Different size than I found ferny, that's for a 1300 yours is a 1500....doh..!Nope, they're all 1.3lt. But the problem with that Ballade radiator is that it doesn't have the automatic gearbox cooler.I'm trying to find dimensions for Toyota Avensis 1.6/1.8 vvti 2003-2007 and a better picture. It look like the filler is blanked off. If it isn't it won't match the plumbing!http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-AVENSIS-1-6-1-8-VVTI-2003-2007-BRAND-NEW-AUTOMATIC-RADIATOR-/221354362253?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3389bf858d
ferny
This is what the engine bay looks like by the way. It's not cramped, but you can see it's a bit restricted unlike the other Triumphs... ;)

JohnD
PEDANT ALERT!A radiator IS a heat exchanger! An alternative to an oil-to-air cooler (heat exchanger) is an oil-to-water cooler.EG http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/oil-coolers-accessories/mocal-laminova-oil-cooler-water-cooledJohn

ferny
Updating an old thread.Took the Acclaim for a run to the pub last night and at 23:30 the needle was just as high as normal - as in too high. When I took the front of the car apart last month I noticed the radiator had zero fins left so the only cooling is coming from air touching the core. How long will that core last? So I'm taking a punt on the 1990 2.0/2.2 Honda Accord radiator. Might have to get creative with the mounting, hoses and fan switch but it's cheaper than a rebuilt engine and at £39 delivered is cheaper than buying or rebuilding an Acclaim one which comes in between £130 and £220. May even have to put the fan on the front but seeing as the new radiator deals with 150bhp I think it's got the capacity to cope!

nang
Why not just a small oil cooler for the transmission? Mounted in front of the radiator and to my mind much more efficient.I've known of ones that use a pipe through the bottom tank to cool the trans that have developed a leak, letting water into the trans fluid with disasterous results.Tony. ferny
Because then I'd have to find a way of fitting a thermostatic control to stop it over cooling. I've also had two oil coolers fail on me in the past.
