Hairy Bobis
I hope someone can be of assistance.Does anyone have access to a Girling shock absorber parts book?I am in the process of rebuilding my Herald 13/60 rear drivetrain and I have a query with my shock absorbers. The items I took off from my car are marked up as Girling quoting '6405 4872B 051W DECARBON'.However, many moons ago I bought some NOS Girling shock absorbers from an autojumble which I was told was for my car. These are marked as GIRLING ' 6405 4365D NA XB51'. They are fatter than the skinny ones I took off.As per the photo, the old one is fully extended while the new one is fully retracted. The new one extends to the same length as the old one.Are these suitable for my car?Any guidance will be much appreciated.Thanks.
Hairy Bobis
I managed to find out the differences, the 4365D are heavy duty items for the Herald, Spitfire and Vitesse, whereas the 4872 are standard fitment.I am now in two minds whether I should use them or just repaint the existing ones and refit them with some poly bushes. They appear to be in working order.
rotoflex
Thanks for showing us the photograph. I'd often seen HD shocks listed in orgiinal parts manuals, & have always wondered about them.
