sam93
Hello All,I thought that I've have a look at MOT advisories for my new GT6. The MOT reads, rear shock, top mounting point (Both sides) have signs of corrosion however no action is currently required.I've have a look at the passenger side, which appears to be the worst. Anyone with GT6 MKIII experience (Chassis No. KE102..). If you could have a look at the pictures below & advise on the best corrective action. Cheers,Sam. JensH
Start with a good clean; i.e. remove all old under seal etc. Will need replacement IMHO.
Hughbert
Good idea to remove the shocks and strip off all the old body coating on the mounts and wheel arch around where the mounts are you will then have a good idea what wants repairing/replacing/plating/welding ;)Photo 2 shows signs of quite bad corrosion between panels I would think it wants sorting out :-/
sam93
So to clarify; I would only need to remove the shock absorber, to replace the mounting point ?
sam93
The other option, is the conversion kit to relocate the top mounting point onto the chassis ?What's peoples opinions on this ?

You will have to sort out the rot anyway; problem is rot between reinforcement panel sandwiched between shock mounting panel and inner wheel arch. Ask your supplier, Rimmer has the reinforcement panel (thought they were NLA) http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-821154Depending on how damaged it is, you might need this one (L & R) too: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-714656
Tim Bancroft
I would do as suggested by JensH and Hughbert. That mounting point is preferable to the conversion bracket placement in my opinion, longer travel shockers etc etc.
Richard B
and also pushes the top shock mount to the front of the car; giving a sideways load to the shock absorber.
