Standard Shocks or not

What's the advantage of changing from standard shocks to more expensive aftermarket adjustable shocks.
I have always used the standard cheap as chips shocks. I do not do track days or drive on the road like a bat out of hell.
The car handles well as a standard setup. So what benefits would be achieved by spending hundreds of pounds on better shocks.

A restorer I spoke to reckoned the std black shocks were only just about adequate when fitted. They are sadly (like so many other parts) built to a price. Just think, they are being sold around the £20 mark. That is about £16 before vat. Take out the retailers mark up (I am not moaning about that, they need to make a profit) and other costs, and you are buying a shock that is being made for under a fiver (guesstimate) I doubt there is much in the way of quality control, and certainly no development etc costs involved.

ore expensive shocks, some are probably overpriced based on colour and how they are perceived. But some (ahem, I have Koni fitted) are just a better internal design, but I can't remember what. Put it this way, I don't spend more than I think I need to on my cars, but shocks are pretty important.

Add in the adjustability on some, and they become very handy when it comes to modifying the car setup (I know this is not of interest to you though)

I will also add that my Koni's are now 15 years old. Did huge mileage on my vitesse, some onn y last spit, and now on my latest car. They are still perfect (paint iffy though) so they last well.

But for many who just use their cars gently, they may not be necessary.
