Anthony
Just recently I've seen four anti-roll bars, all of which were twistedI'm assuming there's something wrong hereThey aren't actually supposed to be twisted are they? What's causing them to twist, and how the hell would you re-straighten them? heraldcoupe
A twist in the ARB was introduced quite early in Herald production. It was presumably continued to other models based on the same running gear,Cheers,Bill.
esxefi
for what reason?to counteract chassis transmission torque?
drofgum
Bill,Or was it to balance the weight of the driver? What is the amount of twist measured as inches the free end is above the floor when the other end is stood upon? Curious, Paul
Anthony
The only reasons I could think of would be either due to the engine torque twisting the chassis, or to counter the weight of the driverBUT - Does anyone know for certain that the roll bars were twisted from the factoryI'm thinking the roll bars weren't originally twisted and that we're coming up for 'reasons' for sagging bars
drofgum
Anthony,Are they all twisted in the same direction, or are some near-side up and others off-side up? Curious still, Paul
Anthony
All in the same direction, but I can't remember which way it is/wasI'll check it tomorrow
Clive
I would trust Bill on this.I remember seeing a pile of NOS bars at stafford one year, all with the twist. People find it difficult to accept, but I am happy that is the way they are meant to be.
ferny
Having spent some time belting one with a large hammer before consulting Bill I can confirm that even if you wanted to remove the twist, you can't. :BAnd it makes no difference to the way the car sits - I took mine off years ago. junkuser
I had one re-set to straight by a spring manufacturer, as it just did not seem right. It made no difference to car behavior or stance that I could detect.
Dannyb
perhaps Triumph owners are all a bit twisted

Freebird
Mines flat on the 1500 Spit. If it was twisted it would help with the listing issue that STILL remians unsolved.

MarkB
I have a couple of bars off Mk2 Vitesse's, both with a twist of about 3/4" laid on a flat surface, I had been on the look out for a flat one for the past couple of years and and picked up several at auto jumbles but all twisted the same, so left them alone. I just assumed it was through carrying the weight of the driver for 40 plus years had caused it. Mark
drofgum
Hi,I have one removed from my LHD Mk2 Spit. If placed on the floor the off-side end is about 1" off the floor when the near-side is sitting flat on the floor. I'm wondering if the bars you have which were fitted to RHD cars are twisted in the same way or the opposite direction. Still curious, Paul
