Davemate
The wife wants a wooden(with rivetis showing) steering wheel put on her 1964 herald.Getting a wheel isn't to hard(only had a quick look on the eBay) but what boss do I need ?Are all heralds the same as all spitfires and they the same as tr2-3-4-5-6's ?Some dealers on "the bay" state "this wheel fits spits, heralds and tr2-3-4-5-6" Do I need a full dished/semi dished wheel or will a flat one be ok, I'm sure I've heard that a flat one will cause fingers to hit the indicator/light stalks.Anyone got one for sale :)
Clive
All bosses the same for all those cars except the late spit 1500 which need the "tr7" steering column boss. Hope that makes sense.I used semi dished 14" on my vitesse, 13" on heralds. Flat not really a good feel IMHO.Nope, never had a rivity wheel..... Davemate
Cheers Clive, I'm surprised the little herald has the same fitting as the " manly tr6" I'll make sure I get a semi dished or a full dished one
joecr
I used an early Spitfire boss with a modern wheel on my 13/60. The wheel and boss have to be modified to fit each other but the result is much better than using one of the aftermarket bosses available. rubberhead
hi dave,my vitesse has a 14 semi on it and it was fine.sometimes in the hot summer [remember them] the rivits feel almost to hot to handle. 8)
ferny
How strong are her hands? Thin shiny wheels can be hard to grip, especially in winter. I've got a chunky 13" one and it feels great to touch, especially now it's been oiled rather than varnished.

Mark Hammond
I'm marvelling at Rubberheads 14" semi......... ;DM.
ferny
That is indeed an impressive circumference. No good for me though, it'd be too close to my legs as 13" only just clears comfortably.
Deleted User
I'd agree with the semi-dished wheel suggestion. Our Moto-Lita wheel has grooves on the back, which I find helps keep a good grip on the wheel when turning at low speeds.
Paudman
What about road vibration? I had a wooden wheel and had to change it to a padded one, as the vibrations travelling up from the wheels made driving uncomfortable.
