Mr Elsie
I replaced the original steering rack on the gt6 mk3 for a reconditioned one that I was told was a spitfire one. Is there any external differences to the racks from the two cars as the one on now is very close to the sump and does touch a little. It does look like one of my engine mounts is less than solid so would replacing the rubber mounts solve the clearance issue?
Nick Jones
Should be identical externally. They are always pretty close to the sump. Could be that you haven't got the clamps back quite far enough outwards?Internally the Spitfire one should have seven teeth on the pinion rather than the six of the GT6 making the steering faster, but heavier.CheersNick

rotoflex
I think I remember seeing some company selling replacement steering racks that differed in appearance from the original types but were claimed to be functionally the same.
