MadMitch82
How does one go about removing the steering arm from the rack?Have tried tapping the nut but wont budge. Is it taper locked like the stub axles?
Freebird
Yes, tapered and pretty tight.Having taken it off the car, its more floppy so will resist some of the normal removal methods but there are several pullers on the market that will make short work of it.This one is quite small, designed for just this type of job £8.90 all in.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Ak380-Ball-Joint-Splitter-Puller-Remover-Brand-New-/331052247225?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4d144068b9#ht_1586wt_1141This one is heavier duty and suitable for other applications too. £10.39http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BALL-JOINT-SCISSOR-TYPE-SPLITTER-SEPERATOR-20-40MM-SEPARATOR-TIE-ROD-END-/130959404316?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item1e7dc9ed1c#ht_1954wt_1141

Is it taper locked like the stub axles?either get a ball joint splitter, or hit the arm by the taper pin, simultaneously (from opposite directions ) with 2 big hammers - that will release it. bit difficult to describe, but the hammers need to hit together, on the casting where the pin goes through
RedRooster
Before you do that, measure the centre of the joint to the end of the threads, more than likely the new ball joint will not be exactly the same length & your settings will be out.
