Yes, tapered and pretty tight.

Having taken it off the car, its more floppy so will resist some of the normal removal methods but there are several pullers on the market that will make short work of it.

This one is quite small, designed for just this type of job £8.90 all in.

either get a ball joint splitter, or hit the arm by the taper pin, simultaneously (from opposite directions  ) with 2 big hammers - that will release it. bit difficult to describe, but the hammers need to hit together, on the casting where the pin goes through
