steering column upper bush (TR7 type)

I am overhauling my late Spitfire 1500 steering column (you know, the one with the TR7 style column switches).
The upper plastic bush (FAM 2406), unique to this type of column, has slightly longer slots at one end; can anyone confirm which way round it should be fitted.

The replacement, from Rimmers, is also split along its length. Is this correct? I do not remember the Stanpart one I fitted years ago having this split, although it does make fitting it to the column much easier.

Incidentally, the workshop manual does not cover the later style column, neither does Haynes! I should have paid more attention when I removed the old 'un!!
