Nick Jones
Depends what you mean by a quick rack? You can fit a Spitfire rack which has 7 teeth on the pinion to the GT6s 6 and is otherwise a direct swap. It makes the steering quicker, but heavier - quite a bit heavier.I have this arrangement on my Vitesse and it's great on the open road but somewhat physical when parking, even with a 15" steering wheel. Worth bearing in mind that a general sort-out of the rack mounts and column joint can make the steering feel a lot more direct by eliminating lost motion. You can fit solid rack mounts and a proper UJ at the base of the column, which sharpens things up a fair bit.CheersNick
willcolumbine
If you're thinking of changing to the spitfire rack then what nick says is correct. If you're thinking of moving to the aftermarket quick rack that's available then don't bother - the spitfire rack plenty fast enough! Anything faster and it'd be far too twitchy! uksnatcher
I fitted one of these Ford Escort MK1/2 Rally Car Group 4 steering couplings, straight bolt on replacement and it improved steering response but you do feel the bumps.(Random pick off ebay, loads of places sell them)http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-MK2-Rally-Car-Group-4-Steering-Coupling-/200694709342?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eba563c5e
rotoflex
This seems to be the "quick rack", one at Moss Motors USA:http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=53687"Our quick rack has a high ratio pinion giving you lock-to-lock in only 2.5 turns, compared to the standard 3.5. Made initially for competition use, racks have a stronger outer casing with a higher grade of steel rack for increased durability. The kit also includes solid alloy mounts to reduce the amount of steering rack float. Tie rod ends not included."Text refers of course to Spitfire, as Moss USA does not offer products for GT6. Nick Jones
2.5 turns lock to lock..... you wouldn't want to be parallel parking a GT6 with one of those fitted :oNick

rotoflex
I'm on the verge of putting a Spitfire rack in my GT6, mostly because of availability issues.Steering effort will be heavier, but I can deal with that, a little quicker will probably be nice, too. cook1e
I ended up with a spitfire rack in my GT6 by mistake as one of the well known Triumph Specialists gave me a Spitfire rack in exchange for a GT6 one when I did a recon. When I pointed out the error of their ways they didn't even know there was a difference or that the 2Litre car racks have the splines marked with 2 grooves as per the picture below (allegedly!). Anyway as I needed a rack for the MOT urgently I fitted it and it's a good compromise, as it is a bit "quicker" than the GT6/Vitesse rack but still manageable for slow speed maneuver.
