CharlieB
Early Spit uses Herald type column, later uses TR7. Or are you after dimensions?
hypoid53
TR7 type on the left, earlier spitfire/herald motolita B45 boss on the right. The TR7 type has pins to cancel the indicators and is obviously much shallower.
GT6 M
thanks ladds, what im after is this, got me eye on a Prototipo wheel, but the boss is only done for 77 on spittys, and as mine is a 72 GT im kersnookered noo, :-/ :-/so will revert back to mMarcus Tinkerous mode, and make some spokes,
DaveKent
why don't you use a cheap boss to suit the spit column, then turn up an adaptor. i've done it a couple of times now, got a thin mountney boss, and i've fitted an alfa/momo wheel with one adaptor, and now have a mx5 momo wheel on a new adaptor. that way you can set the wheel exactly the right distance from the stalks, and at a suitable arm position too. JRidout
Guys,On this subject I have a Steering Wheel (6 hole) but no boss for an early spit... any recommendation on where to get a 6 hole boss?RegardsJR
CharlieB
If Momo boss kits are not available now they were untill recently. The bolt pattern is the same as Mountney M range, Sparco, OMP & many others so you should be able to find a boss to fit.Try the guy selling this wheel:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/13-5-triumph-wooden-steering-wheel-polished-boss-/220691166202?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item336237f3faJR, there are two styles of 6 hole boss, the Mountney style as shown in the pictures above, available everywhere (eg Merlin Motorsport) & the much smaller Momo style that Marcus is after that fits the wheel in my link. TimW
is it the small 6 hole wheel? like the momo? if so i contacted this guy and asked him for a boss without steering wheel. I think he charged me £35 inc postage. I now have a momo wheel on my mk3 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPORTS-BLACK-RED-STITCH-STEERING-WHEEL-SPITFIRE-GT6-/230551713523?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35adf3f6f3

Most after market wheels are the small diametre 6 hole and are all the same. I'd lay money on the one you want fitting this boss. Can you post a larger pic of the wheel you want and i'll have another look

That's why it has 2 holes Both are pretty deep when you get them from Motolita though, and if you use the B45 boss with a later column shroud you have to do some grinding to get it to fit. Quite annoying really. Here's what it looks like before taking a dremel to the shroud:http://triumphspitfire.rickbaines.com/changing-steering-wheels-on-a-1977-78-spitfire/Early Spitfires came with the thinner steering column, and Herald type column surround. Then around 1977 they briefly changed to a thicker column with the later shroud, but at first this was with a different boss. It was alloy and had pins for self cancelling indicators, and the wheel itself mounted to the boss with this square shaped locator. Finally, Triumph started using a 9 hole moto-lita compatible boss but a lot shallower than the moto-llita ones you can get these days, which is the one shown in hypoid53's photo on the left.If anyone has the late Triumph 9 hole boss going spare, PM me as I could do with one. GT6 M
here it is Tim, or others who may can help,http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROTOTIPO-STEERING-WHEEL-MOMO-WINDOW-STICKER-/170564259281?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b66c0dd1reason im after one is the wheel ihave now, touches me knees, cos these darn seats are too high, So if cant get boss, that is some thing similar to original depth, then im going to take the spokes out of an old wheel, and bolt them into a Mountney wheel i got which is 13/5, as opposed to 14.5 inches, Marcus

I am so sure that if you buy one and it dosen't i'll buy it off you at twice the price!!!Go for it Marcus!!PS Why not have a look at ebay for a used genuine momo wheel. The quality of the momo is far better than most wheels that you can buy (in my opinion!) I won my momo "race" for £18 delivered!
