Llessur
...any good or a waste of money?Am looking to replace the rubber mounts for my rack but wondered if anyone had any stories of success/woe with the aluminium mounts?I know they can result in more vibration/shocks through the steering wheel but is there anything else I need to know? Richard B
I prefer the polyurathane ones; a little bit of give and not susceptible to oil damage as the rubber ones are.
mark spit
I haven't noticed any extra vibration / shocks since fitting ally mounts.Have noticed much sharper steering, and the ally won't notice oil either.Morris Minors had these as standard..........IMO definately worth doing. piman
Hello lessur, I concur, aluminium clamps are fine. I can't say I noticed any detrimental effects with mine.Alec
phil866
I have them fitted as well as all steel uj instead of the rubber original. I have 14" 165 tyres fitted with a motolita 13" leather steering wheel. I would describe this set up superb with no nasty kick backs and excellent feel and response. Next job is to polybush the suspension.
CharlieB
I agree the ally mounts are good & don't cause undue vibration. One comment though I had the Moss ones with a hole in the top & one broke in half as I did up the U bolt :( Only buy the machined ones with no hole! Steve Cureton
Mine was fitted with alliminium mounts when I bought and I didn't even know until I stripped it down, thereby suggesting there is no noticeable difference, especially when you consider I have two identical cars, the other one with standard rubber mounts. Steve AKA vitessesteve
Fit the alloy ones and forget them. One less thing for the MOT man to point out and no noticable difference in feel.
Richard B
I have heard that ''the ali ones will be more liable to cause the rack to bend if the car is kerbed as they are so unforgiving''.
Pete Lewis
can't see that it any different on a Spit to a Vit but on my Vit6 the rubber mounts hold down the small nylon rack anti rattle damper in the n/s rack tube, the ally mounts let this fall out and leaves a hole for the water to get in,solution was to use a jubilee clip around the rack to hold the plug in place and dont forget the rubber mounts centre the rack the ally ones have to be centralised equi positioned before clamping Peter
CharlieB
The only good thing about the Moss mounts is the bottom part is wider to centalise the rack. Pity noone makes a machined mount like that.
