WIMPUS
Hi, I'm asking this for a Triumph friend here in Belgium because he can't speak/type english so good. Last week he had trouble when the car was warm the power steering fell away when he turned beyond a point ..When cold it still works normal. What should it be. The Pump or the steering rack itself ? :)Picture of his car('s) (he has 2 other triumphs also) in front of his garage ;)
Richard B
Presumably he has checked the obvious things like fluid level and belt tension?I would think its the rack, but the pump is easier to change :'(
CharliesStag
A rack can still be changed in a couple of hours, so it is not the end of the world.I would still change the belt and recheck the tension as a matter of course though.
StagNL
How does the steering 'fall away'? Does the power fall away causing the steering to go heavy, or does the steering fail alltogether?Just tonight mine went very heavy and then one of the hoses blew off and spreading oil over everything. Something must have caused a blockage or resistance.Symptoms in the past were the steering assistance would not work upon starting in the morning. Only after a bit of throttle and forcing the steering wheel would it get working again. I'm thinking my pump needs a rebuild or replacement. Or the rack? Didier De Leu
In my stag when he is cold then turns the wheel well, it is when the engine is hot as well that sometimes the handlebar drops and heavy word. I sometimes hear a branch but do not know where that noise is coming (is quite uncommon). has anyone had this before? like reactions
Richard B
Have you checked the tension of the power steering drive belt?
