alpinemauve
My diff has the number 509703 handpainted on the mounting plate. Does anyone have a reference to this number and the ratio the diff then has?

heraldcoupe
I've had a cursory look through the early lists and that number doesn't show up. Is it a Mk1 or Mk2 mounting plate? Cheers,Bill.
alpinemauve
The diff number I have should be either 507929 or 508654 for the diff complete and 205368 for the plate itself. But I have no reference to the 509703 figure.
JensH
Is it me or is your diff lacking the "cups" at the front mountings? The one I found on my spitfire mk 3 didn't have these - and they didn't look like being cut off?/Jens

Using it in my mk 3 spitfire now!The Mk1 diff uses shorter mounting rubbers to the Mk2, when used in it's intended application. The cups would have made location more positive, and I'm uncertain of the relative heights of the front mountings. Cheers,Bill.

Not a good idea to rely on them though, they were upgraded for good reason....Cheers,Bill.

I think the number you quote above is missing a digit and should be FC120000, it being a differential serial number (series continued from the original Spitfire, hence the FC prefix).
