WhiteV
Hi = Occasionally 3.63 diffs turn up on ebay but in the main they are 4 stud from 1500 Spitfire. My question is there any likely problems or concerns in use fitting a 4 stdto a Vitesse which is normally 6 stud diff attachment. Kind regards
Paudman
Unless there's any problem with the Vitesse that I'm not aware of, you can use the 4 stud fixing to convert to swing spring rather than retain the fixed spring arrangement. I did it on my GT6 firstly by blanking off two stud holes on the old diff, then replacing that with a 3.63 diff later on.
heraldcoupe
4-stud is fine for a swing spring conversion.Don't be tempted though to simply omit the two studs and stick with the fixed spring. The top plate isn't strong enough without the additional studs to spread the load, I have seen them break on two different Heralds,Cheers,Bill. Nick Jones
Recommend swapping the rear housing with a 6 hole one from a 3.89 diff. Not hard.3.63 is a good ratio for a 2L Vitesse.Nick
WhiteV
Hi guys -- Many thanks for the replies. I will be retaining original fixed spring so I might look into Nick's suggestion of changing over the housing. Kind regards.
IVANHOE
My vitesse has a 3.63 and only has the 4 studs, I've been using it like that for the past 4 yrs.I'm not saying it's "right" ............ but it's fact.
SRF
I don't intend hi jacking this post, but I also intend changing to a 3.63 diff and will use the original rear housing. I have managed to get part of a 3.63 diff. I have removed the crown wheel and pinion and if I have the nerve I will swap them over in the spring. If I see sense over Christmas I may take my own diff and the 3.63 Crown Wheel and Pinion and have it re conditioned by an expert with the 3,63 ratio. Has anybody ever done a differential????
