Fish
Hi, is it possible to the rear gasket on the diff without taking it off the car please?ThanksFish
stagdad
Would be a lot harder to try and do it in situ as the back mounting plate bolts to the rear diff cover ,can't see it being doable without removing the diff but i might be wrong. If you have a leak try making sure the breather is clear first by wiggaling the pin sticking out of it.Cheers steve
StagNL
I think you'd at the very least need to lower the rear mounting in order to remove it from the diff. There is stuff all space between the rear mounting / cover and the boot panel. By coming down a fair way you'd have it on an angle that may make it possible. The pin mentioned above is sometimes hard to locate due to crud on the diff.Julian
Fish
Thanks Steve and Julian, I'll give that a go before I start to pull it apart.RegardsFish
chamchella
I not that Stags have a high engine cruising RPM. Are there other ratio diffs available to bring the 60mph engine RPM down to say 2400?
CRAJ
You could use a CW&P from a 2500 saloon or estate, they are 3.45:1 and would give about 70mph at 2700rpm (approx)Someone will be along with experience of doing this soon I'm sure.Colin
Richard B
ps. If usinga a MkII Saloon 3.45 diff, you need the rear aluminium casting off of a MkI (Saloon or Estate) or a MkII Estate. The MkII Saloon rear casting is different to the others. And the Stag casting is different again. ;D pps the rear steel plate is the same. 8)
Rubce
I have a 3.45 diff on our MOD Stag. Runs well and the rpm is reducedRegardsBruce
