Bilco
Hi, I have a ‘72 Triumph Stag and looking for advice regarding drive shafts and rear hubs. The splined shafts themselves are ok but the UJs are shot and are the early peened type. Does anyone have experience of machining the yokes on both the drive shaft and the stub axle so that new / circlip type UJs can be fitted? The older UJs are smaller in diameter so in theory this is possible…………….what’s the general consensus on this??? I’ve found new / upgraded driveshafts available from Tony Hart and Monarch but these only accept the later circlip UJs. To make compatible with the hubs I would also need new stub axles and this makes it an expensive fix. If I go the route of new stub axles then it’s nearly the same outlay as buying the Datsun type shafts with recon hubs from Monarch. Anyone bought these and are they worth the big wad of cash he charges? I'm also guessing good condition / used shafts & hubs are like hens teeth! :-/Cheers for any info! Richard B
You can get them machined. But MkII 2000/2.5 Saloon driveshafts are the same length and have the circlip U/J. If you are going to Stoneleigh then you should be able to pick up some good S/H ones. or try Chris Witor/eBay/etc
