spitty67
Hi, Having just got my spitfire back on the road I have discovered a bit of a problem. It has cobra slots fitted and the inch of tyre or so that is outside the arch sprays mud all over the wind screen! Are there wheel arch extension kits availible or can a kit for another vehical be used? Andy
willcolumbine
Never heard of that before! How wide are your wheels and are they the right offset? There aren't any specific wheel spats available as far as I know but I'm sure something could be adapted to suit. If I were you though I'd investigate whats up with your wheels and maybe get some that fit the arches better.
spitty67
Thanks for the replies. Oh, that banned man! The alloys I have were factory fitted at one time apparently, just standard cobra chrome slots fitted with no offset, 185mm wide. I`m not really afte r a whole new wing, just a bolt on arch extension similar to ones availible for minis. Has anyone seen any examples of arches that have been adapted to suit? cheers, andy
CharlieB
Andy, your wheels are the wrong offset as Will says, should be about 16 to 22mm. 185 tyres fit fine with the right wheels. Triumph never fitted alloys to the Spitfire but there're lots available that fit.
ferny
My 5.5J alloys with 0 offset and 155 tyres spray muck all over my front wings on the Herald.
toomanyprojects
Isn't this also an MOT/Legal issue.Isn't it an MOT Failure if you're wheels stick outside the rims?I'd be looking at a different set of allows than trying to fit arches.. maph2
for MOT, only the tyre tread has to covered my the arches IIRC
