Assemble the rear end and leave the spring eye to top of the vertical link until last.

You then need a bit of brute force to bend the spring upwards to be able to get the vertical link into place.

My very unsafe way of doing it without the proper gear (not recommended, danger of loosing fingers!!!)

Hi  mate got a spring lifter ( Royboy thanks) took a photo of problem now if i put bottom wishbone 1st I am out top for getting the bolt through the spring eye and vertical link.
I am now thinking shaft too long but it is the same length as the old one ?

Should be easier to assemble with the CVs as you are not fighting against the rotoflex.  Should just be a case of getting the spring lifter in place and propped up to a suitable height and then just bolting the assembly up.

Looking at those pics I can only conclude that the shaft is a bit too long - bummer  :(.  I'm not sure how you came up with the original length (don't think that was discussed?), but if you just measured a roto shaft assembly off the car it will be too long as it is somewhat compressed when fitted - which is why it's such a pig of a job to fit.

When calculating the length you need, you need to consider the length change as the suspension moves through it's range.

The way I did this was to fit the vertical link with hub, outer CV and driveshaft, but using a spring that was stripped down to just the single, king leaf.  Then with the damper fitted I could easily move the suspension through its full range of travel and measure the gap between the inner end of the shaft and the diff flange and see how it varied.  

I can't find my notes on this unfortunately, but I think the shaft needs to be shortest at full bump and full droop and longest at normal running position (where the wishbone is horizontal).  I do remember that the range was 11mm on my car though.  Yours may vary as mine is a roto Vitesse with telescopic dampers from a swing axle car and chassis extender top damper mounts.  This means my bump and droop points may be slightly different and the rate of change of shaft length is much higher towards the ends of travel.  I note that you also have a choice of lower wishbone mount points - this will also affect things.  You might wish to profile the shaft length/length change for all three positions.  It's possible that the single CV with plunge ability won't have enough range of motion to allow the same shaft length to be used with all three mounting positions.

When using just a one CV that has plunge capability, it is important to get the shaft length right as that single CV doesn't have very much more plunge capacity (18mm for the Volvo ones) than is needed, so not alot of room for error.
I was fortunate in that both the escort shaft I used on my prototype and the Rover 100 shaft used later by Josh were close enough to the right length to be easily allowed for in the CV/UJ adaptor plate.

Once I had the shaft assembly made up, I fitted it to the car with the single leaf spring and moved the suspension through the full range while turning the shaft to make sure it worked.  I also used a degreased inner CV with no gaiter so I could see what was going in there and make sure it wasn't getting too close to the ends of it's travel.

Dom and I waited untill my wife Lynda went out shopping and then we stripped the whole hub and draiveshaft it all down and I took the 9" disc cutter to it and when I took the two shafts apart I found that the inner shaft had not sat down fully when they were welded together. So I took a bit off the outer shaft tube and reset the two back together. Then welded them together then we reassembled it all back again. Nick you were right it all just went together no probs.

Its 11.20 pm now and my wife  has taken the garage key and hid it :-/ I have had to take two 500mg of paracetamol plus two 200mg of ibuprofen and 500mg of gabapentin oh and a big glass of white wine I am fooking fooked  ;D ;D :'( :'( :'( ;D

Good thing I am having my T3.T4 and T5 vertabre wired and fused together in two weeks time than 3 weeks after that I am having the two parts of my collar bone grafted and fused together then eight weeks latter my left hand will be rebroke set and a metal plate and pinens put in it. ;D

My left hand took a knock with the driveshaft assy early and is twice the normal size  :'( :'( :'( :'( ;D ;D ;D ooooh its fookin painfull  ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :'( :'( ;D

Now was it worth doing the work on the car today no it bloomin was not I can hardly walk at the moment  ;D ;D ;D :'( :X now I wonder where that garage keyis as  the underneath of the car needs a touch of paint after all that work. ;D ;D ;D :'(

Time for another glass of wine ;)

Ok I have recovered and was able to pass a few hours in the company of some fellow Triumph mad friends this evening in a local ale house :) Needless to say I will now wait untill well enough untill I attept to convert  the other side of the cars rotoflex driveshaft  ;D I will put photos and description of each step of the process for anyone intreseted I see no reason why the conversion will not work and should be done by anyone who can weld and have some basic knowledge of engineering.
