Andy Borris
What thread is used into the rear trailing arm for the studs, ?ThanksAndy
Nick Jones
If you mean the ring of studs that hold the back-plate and wheel bearing housing into the trailing arm - 1/4" UNF. Not a great engineering choice!Nick
Andy Borris
Thanks NickGot some new s/h arms on the way and I'd like to clean the threads before fitting, need to check that I've got the right tap!Andy
Nick Jones
Use Loctite when fitting the studs and note the torque settings on the nuts! It's not high and they do pull out..... as you may well already know! I don't know if the competition boys fit bigger ones - there's not alot of meat there......Nick

nang
Was about to say the same thing, easier to Helicoil them before you fit them!
dazzer
I helicoiled the loose ones, same size though and no problems as yet. Have snapped a subframe bush and an arm off during competition in two seperate incidents but the studs continue to hang on in there.
Lord Sorbington
They seem pretty tough but the correct tightening torque is only about 12ftlb. It's so tempting to tighten them beyond that but then your problems start.................

Andy Borris
Never used Helicoils, but I see that they came in a variety of sizes, would there be any advantage in using a UNC Helicoil in the arms? After all, that's the thread Triumph should have used!Andy
Richard B
Helicoil it in 5/15UNF and you can continue to use the original studs. Change to UNC and you will need new studs.TBH if helicoiled you should not have a problem in the future with UNF.Kit on eBay costs about £20 - £25. I usually use Re-Coil as Helicoil is a tradename.
