heraldcoupe
I have something of a special project on the go. It looks like I'll have to get a custom propshaft made as the length needs to be 34". The closest lengths I can find off the shelf are 35.5" for an overdrive GT6, or 32" for some MGBs. Before I get something made-up, does anyone know of a readily available propshaft which would match my needs? I don't have figures for any of the TR propshafts and wondered if there might be anything suitable from that range,Cheers,Bill.
beefertoo
what about the rear half of a dolomite/toledo? have one in the garage i'll measure...
yorkshire_spam
IIRC Range Rover V8 (1986 MY) rear prop is around 890mm (35") - no idea if you adapt one or anything thought.(I think MK1 Discos are around the same length)
Clive
TR8 appears to be 35" but has a Cv so may compress enough? One here at the bottomhttp://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/parts.aspx?categoryID=38&vehicleId=
beefertoo
finally got to measure it and a dolomite rear 1/2 between the u/j cups is 31", if you added a flange instead of the center bearing then it should give you 33 1/2" if that's close enough?craig
Clive
If that is the case I have a toledo prop in the garden. Can measure later this afternoon, hadn't thought about that.
Jonny-Jimbo
I have a spare BMW prop I think, which I can measure up. Obviously not ideal as wont have the right ends on, but could be an option, and certainly will be at least 34" long.
heraldcoupe
Thanks for all the pointers, much to be followed up, particularly the Dolomite.Toledo possibilities.I'll try and keep it to BL parts bin stuff to keep things simple in terms of flanges & UJs. If I can't get to 34" off the shelf I'll cut one down to suit, but it would be simpler not to,Cheers,Bill.
Clive
Bill, just measured my toledo prop (it was OK, but drivetrain swap means it is NLR)The solid (no sliding joint sadly) section is 31" between centre of UJ cups. I make each flange approx 1 1/2", so it would give you 34"?You are more than welcome to it.

Yes please! The 34" distance can be managed to some degree with shims, so the solid shaft should be OK.Not going to Beaulieu by any chance are you?Cheers,Bill.
