daver clasper
Hi everyoneMy Vitesse mk1 2litre diff has no oil drain plug.Would it be possible to run a 5mm outer diam tube or larger, through filler hole into bottom of diff and suck old oil out with a large syringe without it snagging on gears etc. Thanks loads for any advice.Cheers Dave
nang
Probably best to get a new gasket and remove the back cover. You can then get rid of any rubbish on the bottom easily.Tony.

I have a carefully shaped bit of 8mm copper pipe for pulling the last bit out. Will be doing this tomorrow as it seems to help keep the diffs alive. Not possible to split the casing with the diff in the car.Nick
tiggrr1
You could always drill a hole in the bottom of the diff and tap it to take a plug.easy oil changes after that 🙂
GT6 M
Just grill a wol as Steeve says.drill 8 or 10 mm, then fit a bolt there be v little oil will come oot, as most are low to start with.just wrap a clout around the drill bit, as when drill bits in, it can only pass by the flutes, so easily caught.tap and for good measure, bung a magnet into the bolt end,and also, bung a magnet in the filler plug bolt too.Oil is cheeper than diffs, As some of the diffs I get in ev nee oil in em, but a thick treacle stuff, 🙂M
MrSpeedy
I've got one of those vacuum brake bleeding kits. It also does a very good job of sucking out the diff oil

Its easier if the oil is warm otherwise you spend a lot of time keeping the vacuum going. Now filled with nice new clean oil.mike

This prevents me from doing it.Nick
ferny
I only put the hole in when the diff was out of the car for the same reason. You shouldn't get too much swarf in there though and afterwards wash it all out with loads of paraffin through the filling hole.
GT6 M
there nowt goes init if done right,!!drill with oil init, bung a magnet on drill bit, bung a magnetic plug initjobs a good,nI be wary of just sucking it oot,as there all sorts of stuff in there that stiks to funny spotsand yer sukkee sukkee thingee wont get at em allbut its gotta be better than nowt.M

esxefi
the diff casings are iron so the swarf will be small particles unlike steel where you would get helixes, is that right? when drilled and should be less damaging to the diff if they were to remain inside.could repeatedly flush it out with very thin oil to maximise swarf removal through a filter(ladies tights are good for this, although I couldn't comment on what denier you would need )
