GT6 1
As It says , I am looking for a high temp contact adhesive (not spray on) suitable for gluing vinyl trim to metal parts of the car including headlining etc. just wondering what people are impressed with on jobs they have done. Also any recommendations for removing old glue, from metal and vinyl, some time back I used a high temp spray on glue to do some parts, looking at them now it is peeling off so need to clean off the old glue, still very sticky, tried meths but no good, thanks. 🙂
Velocita Rosso
A good spreadable contact adhesive and petrol will get rid of residue

GT6 1
Someone also mentioned to me about using 'trim tape' like a double sided thin tape, for headlining fixing, but hadn't heard of this before, anyone used it??
Velocita Rosso
The adhesive would only be for the edgings as most of the lining would be held firm by the push on trim
GT6 1
have tried the Autoglym stuff and has done a great job of removing all the glue from the shiny side of the dash pad, seems to be working on the metal side with some rubbing as well, thanks for the advice, we'll see how it goes. 🙂
Jonny-Jimbo
We use stuff at work in our trim division called 'Sticky Stuff Remover' - it comes in yellow or white cans. It's really good, and doesn't have too many nasty chemicals in - we're not allowed to use them!
daedalusminos
Don't use ordinary Evostick, you need a high temperature contact adhesive. I found the 1 litre tin from Martrim to be excellent when replacing a headlining on a Lotus Excel - unfortunately the P&P looks excessive but you should be able to get something similar from other suppliers
stevegt6
Quoted Text Don't use ordinary Evostick, you need a high temperature contact adhesive. Why..?Evostik 'Timebond' is what I used - Gives that little bit of initial 'give' to make sure it's right before it's cured
daedalusminos
Temperatures can get hot in a standing car. I had a look at the Timebond datasheet and two points stood out as non-ideal:-Do not use Evo-Stik Timebond with vinyl or plasticised PVC as it will soften in time.Temperature: Resists up to 65C, less in humid conditions.
