Davemate
I want to put an overdrive colum switch onto my herald What parts do I need ?I now I need the lever switch, but how does it all mount onto the steering colum ?
heraldcoupe
The overdrive switch mounts to a special plastic cowl which replaces the one in place over the indicator switch. Once you have all the wiring in place, all you need at the column is the switch, cowling and a set of decals,Cheers,Bill.
thescrapman
You may also need slightly deep pockets if you buy new,Have a word with Lewis or Stuart up the farm, they may ba able to assist.Cheers

Stu 1986
Hi Dave, a couple of years ago I got the column mounted switch bought for me as a Christmas gift, and I got the cowl for it brand new from Rimmer Bros for around £12 which isn't that bad and it arrived beautifully wrapped. The price of a new switch is around the £30-£40 mark I think.S.

molsmagic
Ive got a column switch on my mk2 Spit and to change from o/drive 3rd to 'normal' 4th quickly is not easy! And similarly going back down is the same.Is this why later models had the switch actually in the gear knob? Fitting one of these is on the todo list this winter. Nick Jones
I used the column switch to switch the wipers on my Herald...... with a switch on the gearstick for the OD. Nick

It was cost reduction, the same arrangement to all other British Leyland cars with overdrive at the same time.I prefer the column switch ergonomically (which is a personal preference) and for reliability and my general dislike of electric shocks and smoke. Cheers,Bill.

Paudman
You could fit one either side... then operate overdrive with whatever bodily part is free at the time.
