Hurricane 1600 Posted Saturday at 10:37 Share Posted Saturday at 10:37 Last day of the 10CR we drove through a field of standing stones? what were these about? I was guessing some form of war memorial
JohnD Posted Saturday at 13:08 Share Posted Saturday at 13:08 The location might help, but is this a guessing game?
thescrapman Posted Saturday at 15:18 Share Posted Saturday at 15:18 Sacred relics plundered from a former colony?
RobPearce Posted Saturday at 16:31 Share Posted Saturday at 16:31 The first one is new, so it's under construction... 😛
Nick Jones Posted Saturday at 17:49 Share Posted Saturday at 17:49 This? https://www.thionvilletourisme.fr/decouvrir/balades-nature-au-fil-de-la-moselle/menhirs-de-leurope-un-musee-a-ciel-ouvert/
JohnD Posted Saturday at 19:58 Share Posted Saturday at 19:58 Can't be. The stones in the OP are roughly (and recently?) cut with the drill bores still on the faces.
JohnD Posted Saturday at 20:14 Share Posted Saturday at 20:14 (edited) La Route des Menhirs, in Moselle. See: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/france/moselle/route-des-menhirs/photos This is complete borrocks, modern drill bores on the sides of the 'menhirs',metal brackets suspending one on top.of the other. This is a modern construction, not a war memorial. Art work? Perhaps. But not an ancient construction. AndyA Posted Saturday at 21:48 Share Posted Saturday at 21:48 Looks a lot like: https://www.thionvilletourisme.fr/decouvrir/balades-nature-au-fil-de-la-moselle/quand-on-sen-va-sur-les-chemins/ MENHIRS FROM EUROPE On the Franco-German border, in the village of Launstroff , stand curious, quirky sculptures . Geometric in shape, often built from several pieces, they recall traditional Celtic menhirs , while proudly displaying their differences. Pyramids or stylized faces, smooth or rough, sculpted or not, the trail opens up a palette of works, each more original than the last. Depending on the season of your hike, the surrounding fields will accompany you with their colorful and seasonal palette.
