Neilriser Posted Monday at 14:25 Share Posted Monday at 14:25 Hi to all, just in the process of rebuilding engine after rebore etc the original camshaft is in good condition but the keeper plate has a small worn edge giving me an end float reading of 15 thou,i know the 4 to 8 thou tolerance is preferred but how critical is this reading please? yes i can order a new keeper plate at stupid costs but wanted to check with you all first. Many thanks Neil
Jonny-Jimbo Posted Monday at 15:03 Share Posted Monday at 15:03 You can turn the keeper plate round and use the non-worn edge.
Nick Jones Posted Monday at 21:25 Share Posted Monday at 21:25 Hmm…. As the keeper plate works in both directions turning it around probably won’t change the measured end float. The plate wears on one side only because it’s resisting the thrust imposed by the oil pump drive gear. What turning it around will do is (slightly) improve gear mesh with oil pump drive. It is probably not that critical. I don’t ever recall measuring it beyond making sure the cam turns freely.
