Neilriser Posted July 26 Share Posted July 26 HI carrying out a rebuild just fitted two new uv joints to rear noticed a clicking sound and slight movement within one joint when spinning diff,took apart to check no needle bearings had fallen out upon inspection there is play between the circlip and end cap of aprox 45 thou is there shims available for this please.Neil Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Neilriser Posted July 30 Author Share Posted July 30 HI many thanks ordered 8 of the largest size [62 thou] fitted and now perfect except for one where the bearing cap is still 20 thou below the circlip,just ordered a selection of 24mm od shim washers in different thicknesses to solve this issue.I measured all the circlips that came with the four new uvs and they are all 47thou? the circlip groove is approx 62 thou so why send out 47 thou as standard no wonder clicking happens Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
glang Posted July 30 Share Posted July 30 I think it doesnt matter the circlip doesnt fill the groove as the only requirement is that the UJ once installed in the yoke with circlips in place is held tight radially. This means all UJs and yokes must be exactly the right size from one side to the other which is highly unlikely especially with a bit of wear so thankfully oversize circlips can be used.... Id certainly be interested to know more about these shim washer. Where did you get them and what thicknesses are available?
