1300 FWD quill shaft

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I just would like to share this photo.

On the left is an original 1500 fwd shaft.
In the middle is a 1500 fwd shaft with the top cut off. Plus new groove.
And on the right is an original 1300 fwd quill shaft.

The adapted shaft does fit my 1300 fwd albeit a bit longer than the original.
And there's plenty of lenght/thread left for the nylon nut.

So, I think one can use a 1500 quill shaft in a 1300 after cutting off the top.

Roundabout answer to your question: the Triumph Dolomite Club spare parts man (or perhaps the magazine editor? Forget exactly who) says the circlip is optional. But they provided a brass 5/16" bolt with the last batch of shafts, in case the nylon one should get squashed. So I reckon you can risk it without the circlip - and maybe source a brass UNF bolt to replace the nylon one if you're worried.

P.S. I agree with MikeyB and would use the 1500 shaft with no circlip, if I was in your position.
