Removing overdrive gear stick knob

Recommended Posts

I’m looking for advice for my 1500 Spitfire

I’m going to swap my non overdrive gearbox for an overdrive one. While I’m at it I thought I’d replace the well worn old gear knob and switch.

I can’t see how the old one comes off. Lots of talk about slotted rings above and a chrome ring below which my knob doesn’t have(see photos). Has this been glued on do you think?

maybe I should not bother replacing it with a shiny new one.

Any ideas welcome

Yep, looks like epoxy holding that on, and the stick has lost a couple of inches.

Thd new knobs are nowhere near as nice as originals, new switches are poor, often no good from the box. And the plastic tops don't clip down properly. All in all, pants.
