daver clasper
HiThe barrel is moving around when turning the starter. It will move back and stop to correct position if I turn the key back anti clockwise, but will move round again when turning the starter. Not quick/easy to to remove the switch and have a look, as there is a radio/gauges plate underneath, so wondering if it does need new switch/barrel then I'll oder one first as use the car most days.Any advice much appriciated as always.Cheers, Dave

Dogsbody47uk
Try tightening the switch faceplate nut.

pimp my vit
Get a bit of cloth on the ring nut and with some grips give it a turn...Put the key in and turn the whole thing to 9 o'clock, then tighten the nut and that should take you back to 12 o'clock. daver clasper
Hi, thankswill check it, but I think the locking ring is tight. this was why I was wondering if the barrel could moving more than it should inside of it's body.Cheers, Dave
Mark Hammond
Maybe the locating pin within the barrel is broken? Or is it the whole unit rotating in the dash?Mark
daver clasper
HiTook off the radio and mounting plate to get access to the switch.the unit was moving though the locking ring was staying in same position (maybe a bit stuck to the dash). Anyway, nipped up the locking ring until it was tight, though unit still moving.Undid locking ring and pulled switch out from the back.Tried to fit the ring on to see what was happenning. Difficult to engage threads and the first coulple a bit shiny, they look like they may be very slightly mullered, haed to see as they are so fine. Threads on the ring look ok.Looks like I need to get a new switch or any other dodges pleaseCheers, Dave
Pete Lewis
On my Vit6 the ign switch had a spiked gripping washer to grab the back of the panelswitch had a flat on to locate in the washer which had a D holenot looked to see of its listed as OE.pete
Jonny-Jimbo
Mine has that too, as have my other cars. Dave, the washer does have a D-hole in to match the ignition switch, but it's basically just a square bit of metal with the corners bent up to dig into the back of the dash.
