yorkshire_spam
Sounds like it's burning a bit of oil when you lift off and go back on throttle. Were the bores ok when you did the head gasket? My guess would be rings worn. If it's not using a huge amount of oil and the smoke isn't too unbearable, drive it as is and do an engine rebuild at a later date? pete nettleton
hi,thanks for reply the bores looked very good and there is no sign of engine breathing with rocker cap removed it didnt smoke before head gasket went but the smoke is a bit too severe to use as is
yorkshire_spam
I don't usually set much store by them, but maybe time for a compression test?

glang
Are you saying it didnt so this before the overheating? I thought what you describe is typical of worn valve guides....
pete nettleton
no before overheating car was fine no smoke at all thats what made me think i may have damaged engine ,but car runs good apart from smoke
glang
How bad was the overheat, is it possible that the engine started to seize? Otherwise I wonder if you have an oil leak at the head gasket into a bore - what do the plugs look like?
pete nettleton
the over heat was bad i would say it all but seized the plugs look ok the smoke seems when i rev it and ease of when driving at a constant speed isnt as bad dont know whether to try valve stem seals or try to find another engine
pete nettleton
just a note temp gauge didnt show hot but rad was empty but when i stopped engine was red hot but rad and hoses were cold ,
glang
As suggested previously a compression test will discount the bores etc so that leaves the head which is relatively easy to sort out....
