Richard Herefordshire
Hi AllRecently purchased a MK3 Spitfire and I have an extra switch in the dashboard which is wired into this relay. Can you please tell me which relay this is and why you would have a switch added to this? Thanks very much in advance.
thescrapman
That is not standard, the other one below is horn.I would guess at Overdrive?? Though I thought that relay usually bolts the other side of the butress to the horn.Screws look original though. What colours are the wires?? Richard Herefordshire
I thought it was overdrive relay but I couldn't understand why someone would want to cut the power to it?
Richard Herefordshire
Wire colours:-BlackRed/Green (power from starter solenoid)Red/BlackGreen
piman
Hello Richard, black is earth, red/green is normally a bulb failure, red/black is normally Left-hand, sidelamp fuse to side and tail lamps and number plate illumination and green is ignition switched fused supply. It doesn't sound as though the wires are relevant to the relay's function?Alec
stevegt6
wire switch to relaywire starter sol to relaywire earth to relay..???where does the remaining wire go..???
DougBGT6
Is this a hazard warning relay? Hazards weren't mandatory on cars this early, but it could be an optional extra. Hazards have to work with the ignition off so I would check to see if there's voltage on any of the relay pins with the ignition off (red/green?). Is the switch actually connected to the relay? Also I your black wire appears much thinner than the others, odd for an earth wire, maybe the relay gets it's earth by being screwed to the bulk head? So is black really earth?
