bodders1
generally accepted opinion is a Payen gasket. That's what I fitted to my car after the previous non-payen one let go.Survived the 2000 mile RBRR thrash without a problem.

Which goes to show, I thought it would be lucky to last 5 mins.... Not recommended on an engine with waterways, oil ways or anything resembling a compression ratio though ;DNick
Dicky Blighter
Made one from lino (shows my age) for a Triumph Tiger Cub motorbike, smelt a bit to start with but was still going strong 5 years later when next owner tried to get the head off, took him a while ;D

greenbonnie
i used to reguarly make caskets for thermostat housing out of corn flake boxes. also used baked bean tin to repair the exhaust. this lasted years like this.pete
Nick Jones
My Vitesse has cornflake packet gaskets on the water pump housing and thermostat housing right now. Both have done the RBRR, 2 HCRs and the 10CR as well as a separate trip to Switzerland. My conclusion - cornflake packet gaskets work! (Used in the right places!)Back to the original question, I find I can still get payen head gaskets through my local motor factors - cheap too - last one was £ 9.00 for a 6 cyl one.Nick
