LRgus
Evening all.Any reccomendations on fuel pipe? Rimmer bros seem a touch expensive for new fuel pipe throughout. I was hoping to find somewhere online who could do a roll of pipe. We could do with some spare for use on other stuff and have already got all the clips and stuff. As an aside, does it need to be solid pipe from the tank to the engine bay for an MOT or is that a myth?MKIV spitfire. Cheers.
dinger
No its not . poly or similar is an MOT fail under the car
yorkshire_spam
Not sure how good they are but paddocks list JPR495-1 and JPR495-2 fuel pipe kits for 25ukp+vat ?http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/parts.aspx?categoryID=9&vehicleId=
glang
just bought a length of copper stuff from my local motor factors for a tenner and wacked it in. Dont know what you need a 'kit' for....
Jonny-Jimbo
Yup, you don't need a 'kit' and Rimmers are always overpriced. Any good motorfactors will sell hard line in copper, cunifer or steel. I often buy kit from Demon Tweeks, but I get a good discount through the 750MC, otherwise they're quite expensive too. LRgus
Ok, thanks! solid it is. When using copper pipe, what do people do about fittings? Can you get away with olive type fittings as with water pipe? (think)
glang
well you'll need some rubber fuel pipe and jubilee clips (enough to connect to the tank pipe, the fuel pump inlet pipe and the carb supply pipe) and if the original pump outlet fitting is still good just a new olive for this connection. Bend to shape, clip in and connect up, job done....
Casper
Quoted from dinger No its not . poly or similar is an MOT fail under the car Can anyone give us chapter and verse for that statement?Nothing in the Manual or, as far as I know, in the con & Use Regs.C. nang
Quoted from dinger No its not . poly or similar is an MOT fail under the car Not too sure of the validity of this statement either. My 2500's have what appears to be nylon pipe from the tank to the pump. This would be factory fitted.Tony.
dinger
Got my fingers burned by local tester in the 1070s by using it beneath my 1966 midget .. it was one of the many issues upon which it failed , although it was particularly singled out as downright dangerous and utterly prohibited . I suppose that it could be possible if the pipe was positioned such that it was totally protected which may be what Triumph did ,as the tester stipulated that abrasion and possible cut damage was the reason. yorkshire_spam
I would guess that the situation would be that rigid appropriately fixed proper spec. plastic pipe is acceptable (since I've seen it factory fitted on 1990s vehicles) BUT that a tester would have a serious fit if they saw flexible rubber fuel hose running the length of the underside of a car. RobPearce
Yes, that is correct. Rigid plastic pipe, properly secured, is fine. Flexible hose is not.
Nick Jones
8mm copper pipe as used in microbore heating systems is fine. You don't have to use compression fittings for low pressure carb systems, just use the right size matching rubber fuel hose (SAE J30 R9 spec for ethanol resistance) and some good quality hose clips.Nick
