2009poolesparky
I have a standard mechanical fuel pump on my mk2 spit. I was wondering if anyone knew where they might sell a glass bowl fuel pump that will fit and work, or one that could be modified to work.I know the gt6 mk1 and Vitesse mk2 had glass pumps but I'm unsure if it will work.Any help appreciated
Jonny-Jimbo
I think there are two distinct type of pumps - the ones with the glass bowl and those without. It would not be possible to put a glass bowl onto a metal bodied pump.
RobPearce
There's more than two, Wim. The early 2L engine (up to HC5000) has a different glass-bowl pump from the later one, and they're not compatible. I think the later one might fit a Spitfire, based purely on having had to temporarily put a Herald pump on my Vitesse when I changed the block. There are also at least two variants of the non-glass-bowl pump, with and without priming lever. There are also "long arm" and "short arm" versions which need different gaskets/spacers behind them. 2009poolesparky
Does anyone know if there is a difference in pumping pressure between a standard mk2 spitfire pump, and an AC glass topped pump for a gt6 mk1?
Jonny-Jimbo
I don't know for sure, but pressure is highly likely to be the same or similar, however, the flow rate could well be different.
drofgum
Hi,The pressure wouldn't be much different being set to suit the ZS carbs on the GT6 instead of the SUs on the Spitfire. The flow rate is always set by the opening of the float valves in the carbs. The GT6 pump might be able to pump more, but no more than the carbs allow will be pumped. 2009poolesparky
That sounds ok then, the float bowls are set up correctly, I guess it's just trial and error, if worst comes to worst and it doesn't work, then I can sell it on as a refurbished unit
