Davemate
I thought my brake pedal seemed a bit to firm on my trip to Clacton yesterday, so today I popped open the bonnet to see if anything was obviously wrong. Where the vacuum pipe goes onto the servo there appears to be a loose fitting. Can this be repaired or is it a rebuild/replace or a case of "that's normal" I know it sounds like a diesel, suspect it's a cam follower :-/http://youtu.be/8xWB9VdshnY
piman
Hello Dave, the hose adapter (plastic) plugs into a large grommet like part, it will just pull out. Possibly the grommet is perished or the plastic adapter is cracked or that the hose just want tightening?Alec
Davemate
Cheers Alec,I'll yank it out and see if I can get a new grommet.
Pete Lewis
if all is sound . the grommet is not perished , its down to agism, you could bind the valve with adhesive tape to increase its fit or use a rubber sealer, its vacuum youre sealing and any loss affects the assistance given, mine just wrecked the main diaphragm after me thinking these brakes are not inspiring ( being new to the car ) a week later saw some excitment with a rapid approaching roundabout a big bus !!! heavy pedal and little braking Ooops!good luck Pete
