Toby
I've just fitted a new set of tyres to my Mk IV Spitfire (got 5 Toyo 185/60 from TyreTraders.com for under £200 incl. delivery!) running on 5.5J steel wheels.Just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what the optimal tyre pressure is with this slightly non-standard setup? Thanks in advance... tiggrr1
Hi TobyI've got 185/60 13's on my GT6 (Toyo 888's) and I'm messing about looking at what works for me.as a starting point I'm on 28 psi all around and it seems good to me at the moment, your car will be lighter than mine so maybe try a little lower to start but not too much. Of course it all tyres are different so you will have to make up your own mind what suits you.I'm sure someone will be able to quote the standard pressures for you but I'd suggest if they are inflated so that they are up and round with a slight deformation at the bottom where the contact patch with the road is then you will be close. (if that makes sense??? )
CharlieB
Standard pressure for standard tyres on a MkIV Spit is 21 front 26 rear (you probably knew that :) )
JohnD
All good advice above. But buy a tyre tread depth gauge, and keep a note of how the tread wears.Under inflated >> shoulders wear more than tread centre. And vice versa. It'll also tell you if the camber needs adjusting.John
TimW
i have the same size and run 27psi all round.
jonnyk5614
What is best to run on cheap cheap (£30) tyres?I used to have 28 all round but got bored of having a bit too much fun in the rain! Now at book pressures the car seams to be somewhat spongey. What can I safely go up to?
