Storing an engine

My Spit mkIV is about to have a MkIII engine installed, but in the meantime, what do you intelligent people recommend in terms of keeping the engine ok until my old MkIV engine dies  (not long judging by the sound of spanners from under the bonnet when I start and stop!) It's under a large barn, which is open on one side, but it is dusty under there, it's just covered with a tarp at the moment.

Cheers for the engine Karl, it got to France ok!

Mine sat for 8 years in a dirty and dusty but dryish garage. I didn't bother covering it, but that can't do any harm.

I left it as complete as possible (including manifolds and carbs), left the oil in it and made sure as much water as possible was out. I tried to remember to turn it by hand every couple of months, but that fell by the wayside after the first couple of years.

I didn't really come to any harm, when I got it running again the fuel pump needed dismantling to fix a stuck valve and the chock linkage was tight, that was about it...
