2Toledos
48 lbft should be an absolute maximum for alloy nuts on 7/16ths studs, otherwise you'll just strain the threads.45lbft is more than adequate in most cases, and contrary to 'popular' belief; they will not come loose at this torque. bob dunn
Just got a set of wheels and nuts ,what is the story with ally nuts ?
uksnatcher
Wheel nuts made from alloy reduce unsprung weight Bob.Wheel nuts for alloy wheels are different, they are usually steel wheel nuts with a 60 degree taper or shanked either washer or solid type. OR wheel nuts made of alloy designed for that specific alloy wheel without steel inserts so they dont damage the wheel.I think thats what RAY J is asking...alloy wheel nuts or steel wheel nuts for alloy wheels?? Richard B
Stag and 2500S both had those alloy wheels and nuts.Don't over tighten them, but do check them after 1/2 mile.and for Gods sake, don't let any cack-handed, tyre fitter near them with an air gun.or its goodbye thread! :'(
