Velocita Rosso
Knock out old studs and feed in new. Line up the splines, stud to hub, slip over the stud a spacer nut, spin on wheel nut and tighten up.The stud is drawn in to the hub.Remove wheel nut and spacer nut.If the hubs are off the car then a lump hammer suffices
Pete Lewis
Thats spot on ,,,you dont need a press but why not upgrade to 7\16 or 12mm studs and never ever need to change them again , TR/ ford /landrover do the job do a search up top there are many suggestions Pete
Mj17
You don't need a press for standard or 'Ford' studs but I've tried some of the longer studs from Jigsaw and there is no way they were going to pull through with a wheelnut/washers - I tried! Velocita Rosso
The ones i recd from Jigsaw were tight, but you have to ensure the splines are lined up exact, and they did go in .Better tight than too slack, cos if one comes loose whilst wheel nut removing you have a dilema ,with the stud spinning whilst stuck on the nut

I don't want to spend more money on nuts when i have a new set already. I have ordered a set of 8 47mm (longest available) from mark at jigsaw so we will see how i get on. again thanks for all of your support on this and all of my other issues
irish44j
I'm using Rover Freelander studs. They are a DIRECT fit and damn, they are so nice and beefy compared to the puny stockers (and much longer). The only tough part is tha the hubs had to be removed to fit them since they're too long to slide behind the hub. In the front I just pulled the hubs. In the rear I drilled an "access hole" in the drum backing plate instead. I was planning to do this for ventilation of the drum anyhow (mine only drives in nice weather and on the track)...The rim of the head has to be ground down slightly so as to not interfere with the hub collar in the rear, but just a tiny bit.Pics:On the left stock. Middle are thicker ones in stock length from Steve Downing (still too short for alloys). Right are the Freelanders.
Richard B
So how much are Freelander studs and do I just go to my nearest LR supplier? Also who does the nuts for them? :-/
Clive
I have some ford studs. They wshould fit OK. The LR ones are 12mm, so any moden (post 1972ish) ford, most rover, etc etc etc. I got plain steel wheel nuts for the ford for £2 a set :)

Also who does the nuts for them? :-/I ordered them from UK. They weren't particularly expensive...maybe US$40 or so for a full car set. Ordered from some offroad place, not from Rover themselves.IDK about where you are. They're a standard thread and I bought regular lug nuts from my local chain auto parts store. I try to use them up when I can, since spray paint is not exactly cheap.when I was rebuilding the car and cleaning/repainting various parts that aren't generally visible (like the spring), I just used leftover colors I didn't want to use on visible parts. Even my frame is half black with some sections in epoxy red. The inner firewall behind the dashboard is dark green. The inside of the spare tire compartment is metallic blue. My car is for the track (eventually) not the concours....Aside from the fact that the outside of the car is matte black :)---That or I'm lying and the spring is red because it adds 20bhp (and red radius arms add another 10bhp) ;)
