rotoflex
Does anyone have experience with 185/70 R13 tires on 5J wheels? In this thread, callspoy said he is running 185/70 R13s on the rear on 5.5Js:http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1315255410/#num75.5J's apparently don't exist over here, but in that same thread MarkB posts his correspondence with Bridgestone which showed that the 175/70 R13 could be fitted to a surprising range of wheels:http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1315255410/#num5Quote:ETRTO Standards state that a 175/70R13 can be fitted to rims of the following dimensions:4.50B4 ½ J5.00B (optimal recommendation)5J (optimal recommendation)5.50B5 ½ J6.00B6JSo all of these would be approved under ETRTO legislative standards.Kind regardsBSUK TechnicalWhich gives me a glimmer of hope that 185's may be acceptable for 5J's. I'm also curious if 185/70 R13 tires on the front would require modifying the fenders for clearance.
CHRIS211083
Hi I have 185/60/13 on 5.5j wheels and love them and no mods needed. Chris.
Bainzy
Ive had 175/70/13s on 4.5J wheels for years with no issues. Would still like to put wider Steels on, just need to find a set I can refurb for a keen price.
piman
Hello Bill, I have 185/70 x 13" on 5J wheels, and have done so for years. No issues, but the reason I fitted them was I couldn't get 175/70section when I wanted them. The difference is only about 3/8" in real measurement.Alec
uksnatcher
Bill, heres a good wheel/tyre calculator if you know the offset (ET) of the wheels , i have put the offset at 16mm for the 5.5 for example ...have a play with it ;)http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=175&aspect=70&diameter=13&wheelwidth=5.5&offset=16&width2=185&aspect2=70&diameter2=13&wheelwidth2=5.5&offset2=16&Submit=Submit

rotoflex
piman: Thank you for the resolution of the wheel issue, that's half or more of my problem solved. The only variable left seems to be whether the 185/70's would foul the Spitfire/GT6 squaretail front arches (rears will likely be fine). So if there's no direct confirmation of 185/70 R13's being used successfully on squaretail Spitfire/GT6's, I suppose I could get some & just move them to the rears if they don't work out in front. Thanks everyone else, too, I'm making notes.Bainzy: yours were on the 4.5J oval hole wheels?Chris: yours were on a roundtail Spitfire? Were the wheels the 5.5J silver oval hole wheels?
